Here three alternative Lockheed Jetliners of 50s. Starting with fuselage of Lockheed Electra L-188.

First 2 are my personal interpretation of project L-193, (Constellation II):  https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/threads/lockheed-l-193-constellation-ii-jet-airliner-1953.16708/

The third one is a what if Lockheed tried the 707 / DC-8 option

Do you know that DC-9 could be a downscaled DC-8 with 4 smaller engines? https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/threads/douglas-dc-9-development-concepts.9880/

Along with RW Lockheed L-1011-500, here we have a twin derivative, with same engines but only two; Dash-600
https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/threads/lockheed-l-1011-tristar-twin-derivatives.18025/

And here, another Lockheed project: QuadStar derived from L-1011-500 too, with four engines (like those of DC-10-10) in an original disposition that I will call "Evan config"  ;D

Hi Evan, IIRC In the past you worked for Lockheed. Were involved in QuadStar design?  ;)

Super Scandia, equipped with 4 radials derived from RW's Saab Scandia. It is also equipped with a conformal fuel tank under the belly to reach intercontinental range.

XB-51 is a pretty strange project on its own. So I had to address several issues:

1. I removed the center landing gear and replaced it with a classic one.

2. I replaced the variable incidence wings with some classic ones taken from the F-86 (upscaled).

3. I solved the problem of lack of power by adding a fourth reactor, removing the central engine.

Here we can see 2 versions:

1. Closer to the original XB-51, in TWA colors, preferred by Howard Hughes.

2. More civilized, in Pan Am colors, chosen by Juan Trippe.

In mid 50s Iberia decides to patron a project of an airliner to fly Madrid - Buenos Aires, non stop (10.050 km). CASA and INTA as technology partners design a 4 radials plane strongly influenced by DC-7, called INTA-40.

Here you can see INTA-40 along with its inspiration: DC-7C and INTA-20, which you can see in the thread devoted to CASA transports and liners. All of them in constant scale.

Designer's main interest was range. Fuselage is depper than DC-7's, allowing for tankage in belly area; besides this, it carries wing tips tanks. Accomodation is lower than DC-7's, but with more confort.

According to documentation in Secret Projects Forum, CASA-401 could look like this. Quite similar to italian G.222 on steroids IMO.

Nice! I especially like the Mezek/Heinkel hybrid

BTW: I like the look of that CASA-401 commuterliner ... far better-looking than the G.222, IMHO.

Some years ago I saw this beautiful Tupolev design labeled as Tu-101

When I searched more deeply, I saw these two drawings

In Secret Projects https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/threads/tupolev-post-1945-civil-and-military-transport-projects.15787/post-168853  :o  :banghead:

As nothing seems too clear , I decided to produce a turboprop powered and reduced version of Tu-134

Any other info or help with this project?
