Black Corsair or Corsair Hawk
-
Some interesting ideas there.
-
Those look/work very well. Cool,,, and more food for bashing thought. :)
-
Carlos, the Black Hog looks like a great starting point for a sci-fi build :)
-
Hi Carlos!
I really love your Black Corsair, very nice lines! 8)
-
I know they are not very well executed. They are intended to test some of my ideas before cutting styrene. 8)
Thanks for your nice words anyway. :icon_beer:
-
I like the Black Corsair / Corsair Hawk !!
That single-tail B-25 isn't a whif ! A tail-less Mitchell was rigged up with a single fin as a static in Tora, Tora Tora :D
-
Love the B-25......... very cool
-
The so surprising Black Hog is my favourite... :-*
-
Great work on the single-tail B-25, Carlos! I've always wondered what it would look like with a more convential tail.

Currently thinking in the same with Lockheed Hudson. :)

Great work. I enjoyed particularly the Black Hog

Douglas DC-11
-
Thanks ysi for this piece of laughing on Sunday morning... :-* :D
Though, I object a little: as prooven by the A300/767 then 777, big load does not need many engines nowadays.
All is different with safety: when 2 engines are in a jam on a 2-jet airliner, passengers may die in the crash.
So when Douglas presented the DC-13, the sellers were affirmative: "even if 5 engines are in a jam, the 6Th one will save you, zero risk!"

-
Very good
-
... as prooven by the A300/767 then 777, big load does not need many engines nowadays ...
Yeah, but whiffery NEEDS more engines! :icon_ninja: 8)
-
Oh sorry, I had forgotten this reason, the most important by far... ;)
-
Love the five engine look. Five will do a great job, but with six it can grind up even more birds before doing an emergency landing/crash.

Oh yeah!!! :)

ysi_maniac: Your Advanced Britannia is very nice! You can still recognize the Britannia but somehow the overall effect says 'Tupolev' :o

How about an advanced Constellation/Starliner with turboprops, swept wings, and swept tail surfaces (retaining three verticals would be optional)?

How about an advanced Constellation/Starliner with turboprops, swept wings, and swept tail surfaces (retaining three verticals would be optional)?
Yes - Constellation would be super to do.. To still be a Constellation, three tails are required. A most destinctive feature.

Love the advanced Britannia

The thrree-engined Bf110 looks interesting, but I think you've got the center engine too far forward for good weight and balance. I'd move it aft until its firewall is about a foot ahead of the windscreen. Now, the tri-gear variant might need a bit more room to allow for stowing the nose gear, but I'd still move the engine no farther forward than necessary and look at rotating the wheel assembly and stowing it under the pilot.
-
New drawings starting with #30 are all cool and inspiring for bashing. You making me overwhelmed with want-to-do's with current bash about 60% done and a few others with basic configuration-models determined. All to be faster than Slowy Jet (maybe one won't). And now I have to leave town for a week and stop construction. So many concepts, so many models, not enough time. No doubt ysi_maniac will contribute to my restless nights of kit-bash configuration contemplation while traveling.

One day, when I begin to do this in styrene I will take your suggestion into account
Thanks.

This can be done in styrene with a He-177 1/72 and a Tu-20 1/100 scaloramed to 1/72 (do you remember that old East Germany kit?)
-
Before reading this at bottom of picture "This can be done in styrene with a He-177 1/72 and a Tu-20 1/100 scaloramed to 1/72" I was thinking same thing. After doing a few attack & fighter planes I would like to try medium to big bomber bashes.
Your bash concept fits right in.

That tail could come from a Me210. 'Twould make a very buildable subject in plastic.

I've only just joined this forum - some of these creations are amazing! I really like the first post - the Mig 21/Draken. I'd love to try to build one by combining a couple of kits - it just looks so right.

Interesting, I wonder if they considered a Griffon P-51?
YOu wonder how dropping a Griffon in a P-51H would do? Alternatively, a Griffon re-engining on a Cavalier Mustang could get right interesting.

I'm not sure how viable this one is. Just in the nominal takeoff position, it looks like the prop nearly hits the ground once the tail comes up; any bounce and "Whoops!!"

You are right, but this issue can easily be solved, lowering wings, perhaps.

This is very difficult in 3D ...

Then I have to respect Flogger engine:

This will need a little work because cockpit area in F-111 is broader than in F-4, but I think it is a good starting point.

Hmmm...those Hornet/Tomcat mix ups could be interesting to model.

Some wild stuff here!
I always liked the idea of a fixed wing Tomcat. I did some sketches of one many years ago using an A-5 Vigilante forward fuselage and wings.

And THAT fixed wing model is what made me like the idea of a fixed wing Tomcat with Vigilante type wings. :)
Not to threadjack, but was there also not a model of the Tomcat with a single vertical tail fin too?

:-* Thanks a lot for your Mirage with nose intake, greatly enriching the Mirage family. Probably Serge Dassault has refused it, but this idea has probably been studied by the design bureau. If more powe rwas needed, you could add back the outboard engines for a seven-engined aircraft. For real range and load carrying, spread the two fuselages apart, add two further engines to the center section and lengthen the fuselages forward and aft of the wing for capacity and to keep weight and balance in hand.

Great Ventura profiles :)

Agreed. Considering what some sources describe as the origin of the triple-tail on the Constellation, or Excalibur as it was originally called, a response to teh triple-tail on the DC-4E, a single-tail is quite believable.

I wasn't sure about that EuroEagle, but it's really growing on me. I like it. It reminds me a bit of the AIDC F-CK-1 Ching-kuo.

I love Ching Kuo too. But I see it a little elegant and delicate. I see EuroEagle sturdier. :D ;)

How is this for a plastic version? P-80 is the Airfix mold. Wings are from a Hasegawa Fuji T-1A. I had to cut the front bottom portion of the P-80 wing out to fill the gap. After some sawing and filing, I think it provides an acceptable transition. No one is going to see it but I did this to address my OCD.
The T-1A root chord is almost the same length as the original.

Hmm, start from a T-33 fuselage but still use a F-80 cockpit and canopy and you'd be close to Lockheed's proposed F-80E.

I'm not familiar with P-80E Evan, Do you have a picture?
But you got me thinking. What if I:
A. removed the wing fences
B. removed all the trim tabs
C. rounded off the vertical and horiz stabilizers
D. moved the horiz stabilizers about 1/2 way up the vertical stabilizer
E. added some cool pointy tip tanks from a 1/128 Constellation

Those are surprising Hellcats !
Cowling looks about right for a R4360 :)
Even R3350 F6F would be a hot rod !

Really like the look of the Dauntless fighter & the Fiat G.55/91 would make a great light CAS aircraft. 8)

Great! I think IIRC that Stargazer2006 did something like that (from a P-38 also) but as photograph in flight, not as 3 view!
I will draw a slanting view of it soon, thanks!

Shackleton liner.
(http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j340/ysi_maniac/Drawing/shackleton_liner.jpg) (http://s1080.photobucket.com/user/ysi_maniac/media/Drawing/shackleton_liner.jpg.html)
-
The Shackleton liner is pleasant at first sight. :)
An engineer would probably ask why selecting a mid-wing airplane to make an airliner... Is this: passengers above the wing and cargo under the wing? ???
-
That particular configuration gives an upobstructed passenger cabin, with the wing carry-though structure passing underneath the floor. Unless you want real rough-field capability, that or a low-wing design are the best approaches for a passenger aircraft. Would this be called a "Shackletonian" or just a "Shackleton Liner"? I keep in mind that Convair's "Liberator Liner" shared only wing and tail surfaces with the Liberator, and then it was the B-24N with the single vertical tail.
Further: I should note that the main landing gear length requirements are going to be the same with a mid- or low-wing in that you've got to keep the props clear of the ground at the highest gross weights and sink rates. A mid-wing like this actually lowers the passenger compartment relative to the ground for purposes of access and loading. Besides, a mid-wing does not need as much of a fairing into the fuselage as a low-wing would.
-
Shackliner? ??? ;)

Mixing Yak-9 and La-5
and P-51 yes? What a marvelous addition to the Soviet-fighters family :-*
-
Mixing Yak-9 and La-5
Interesting. In the real world there were radial engined developments of the Yak-7:
And later Yak-3:
The latter one being particularly attractive.
Both used variants of the M-82/ASh-82 engine.
I wouldn't be surprised if at some point the Yak-9 was also trailed as such, though I can't find any reference...

Advanced and approved! Congratulations to the 1,000 members of the YSI design team! ;)

Nice. I always like the nose profile of the Vanguard.
For the jet version, are those 707 wings and tail? Did you resize them?

^^^^^
Yes 707.
Tail a little resized. Wings just root section cut-out

-
Is this the missing link between F-4 and F-16?
(4+16)/2=10, this could be the poorly known F-10, or YF-10, or XF-10 all right :-*
Secret obviously :icon_ninja:
(and that may explain why some Historians said the F-4 was coded F-110 somehow, no: its derivative was the F-10...)
-
^^^^^
Do you have a formula for this. ;) hehehe!
(http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j340/ysi_maniac/Drawing/F4-F15.jpeg) (http://s1080.photobucket.com/user/ysi_maniac/media/Drawing/F4-F15.jpeg.html)
-
Great!
For the formula of it, I am not sure but I suspect this is the (4+16+16)/3=12, so YF-12, the Real (secret) one!
A US-president by mistake said in the 1960s that the YF-112 was named YF-12, but this was wrong (or a clever trap to fool the spies)... ;)
-
One day this will be done in 3D:Mirage III 1/72 + F-4 1/100 :)

Cool. Westland Corsair. ;)
-
Wow, that looks strangely plausible. I think you could do a "realistic" French one as part of their attack helicopter experiments in Algeria. I'd do it without the nose mounted engine and probably Corsair horizontal tail, as well, but I think that might almost work as a proto-Hind.
Cheers,
Logan

Interesting!! Skip the engine and propeller up front and use the turboshaft version. Be somewhat appropriate since at one time Vought and Sikorsky were a combined division of United Aircraft.

Your Aeroflot Tu-22 is just fantastic and very easy on the eyes as well, ysi!

Your B-24 airliner has a real grain of truth in it. Early B-24's were used as
unarmed transports called C-87's, and the British converted some of their
Avro Lancaster bombers into Lancastrian airliners in 1946-47.
-
So, would the Liberator become the Liberty? ;)
-
I love this B-24 derivative killing nobody anymore (unless there is a crash...).

Nope, Down to a Sunless Sea by David Graham. Though his 797 had a full-length upper deck, back to the tail, added, too. I could see how that could be easily modeled.

*snicker* Could be the shape changing Douglas from The Big Claw, where it morphs from DC-4 to DC-3 and back again depending on which stock footage they used where; the movie is a classic bad movie (so bad, it's entertaining).
Your work here, OTOH, is gorgeous and good.

How were in your opinion the quality of those places, in terms of room, noise, temperature? Better or worse than the others?
Probably very noisy (and draughty due to the main undercarriage doors). How about stations for inflight mechanics? On very long-range flights, the mechanics could do minor engine tweaking from inside the wings and nacelles.

Refining ... For a reason I wll explain in future, I am interested in keeping the extra jet engine as an emergency engine that will work when needed only. This is the reason to fair intake over with a radome with lateral doors that open only when emergency engine must work.

A little XB-43 (which I always thought was a neat looking plane) and a little B-66 Destroyer. Neat idea! I think they would have had to go with a more traditional flight deck arrangement as opposed to the two blisters for the pilot and co-pilot. The twin canopy blisters looked cool, but probably wouldn't have been effective long term. Neat rendering!

-
An alternative to the Westland Commando?
Probably a more successful variant of a previous design, the Larry King. Very loud, shakes a lot, drones on incessantly, unsafe to manuver... ;D Ha!
-
An alternative to the Westland Commando?
My point was to delete boat shape from Sea king bottom and adding Wessex's wheels. This can be seen better in next post.

You take two RW models

Always thought a single seat Tomcat would be interesting
;)

Single-seat Tonka is cool. 8) Has a bit of an AMX vibe to it.
Going by the size, it could've been a neat replacement for all the Ginas flying about in NATO's airspace.

I really like the Allison Wildcat!
-
Yep, I liked the Allison Wildcat, too. The single place Phantom was interesting, but I think Carlos was right; it's tough to make the Phantom any cooler than it already is. (Full disclosure: Being a native of the St. Louis area where they were made, and having a front row seat to seeing them fly in and around the area during my youth, I have an unnatural phondness for Phantoms.)

I have an unnatural phondness for Phantoms.
Ain't no such thang! ;)

Hmmm ... how about moving the cockpit forward on the single-seater -- to provide space for extra fuel, electronics, etc., where the GIB would be?
(edit: What I had in mind was something like the attached image ...)

Small fighter made of a scaloramed Heller 1/100 SMB2 and some bits (nose, canopy and wings) of an Airfix 1/72 MiG-21. Canard delta configuration.
Finnish MiG-21 and Gnat are included for comparison purposes.

Hawker Sea Fury equiped with Hs293. Two different locations. Aft seat is for bomb operator. Not in constant scale however; bomb has been reduced to 75%. So a new reduced Hs293 equivalent must be developed.

Some time ago elmayerle mentioned a study related with F4-EJ Kai. Here F15 wings will be used insted of originals. I was wandering to use some more F15 bits, such as cockpit and canopy, single or double post, enlarge tailfin, ...

Just a thought, since it already had plumbing for a small retractable radiator for low speeds, perhaps a radiator installation like that of the Ki-61 or P-51 would work better than one like the Bf109. This would also allow wing guns and/or stores hardpoints.
-
What if Bf 109 received Jumo 213, like Fw190?
Would you increase tail fin area? Would you lengthen wings?
(http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j340/ysi_maniac/Drawing/Bf109Jumo.jpg) (http://s1080.photobucket.com/user/ysi_maniac/media/Drawing/Bf109Jumo.jpg.html)
-
I like the Jumo engined 109, Señor Ysi. It looks like it belongs there.
This is probably a contrarian view, but try cutting down the fin & rudder just a little bit. I did this on a 109 model a while back and it surprised me how rakish it looked.
You never fail to get me thinking.
Brian da Basher
-
With that larger nose area, you are going to need a corresponding larger fin and rudder area. I would go with the larger fin and rudder from the very late model Bf109s (G-14 and K) and possibly add a dorsal fillet to the front of the fin. Certainly the dorsal fillet on the P-51 proved such can be rakish.
-
Whatif increasing 14% wingspan of Dora in or reach same ratio than Fw-190A.

They both have their good and bad points. From aesthetics, I think the upper one looks better. What I'd like to see is a Centauro with a clear rear canopy like that of the Re.2000 prototype and keeping it's stock hood and windscreen.

There's something very appealing about that P-38 Allison on a Zeke.
I'd have never thought of it. What a great concept!

Here you can see F4U, F2G and my design.
According to wikipedia F2G was only 4 cm longer than F4U :o
Anyway in my definitive version, the plane will be 72 cm longer than standard F4U (measured in the base of propeller), so 1 cm more in my 1/72 model. 8)

I really like your P-40/P-51 combos too, favoring the P-40 fuselage with P-51 wings & tail but both are a feast for the eyes.

I’ve always wondered what a Corsair or Fury would look like with a big honk’n turboprop engine. Kind of like the Piper Enforcer conversion of the Mustang. Just throwing this figment of my imagination out there.

I keep thinking eliminate the "hot seat" and rear rotor, add stub wings with rocket launchers or missiles and it'd look very Luft-intimidating.
Whether it could actually fly like that I leave to the experts.
Brian da Basher
P.S. I like that radial engine Sturmovik. I've had plans to do something similar with a single-seat version in styrene for a while now.
