Excellent concept and backstory with beautifully-rendered 4-view drawings! Does[n't] get much better than that  :smiley:

Bahhh, a bit of cross kitting and profile merging for a man of your talents, nary a problem.

Or is the 3D design path beckoning ?

The conceptual backstory is quite sound and the drawing views convincing as well.

Ha, ha, thanks Brian for your vote of confidence!

The build will be a true mixed media effort but trying to stay as much to traditional methods as I can.  Having said that, some of the shapes will be so awkward that a bit of CAD work and printing will be inevitable.  However, I want to see if the spares box can take the brunt of the damage!

Cruiser Tank Vigilante Update:

Well, here we go with a pretty much 'out-of-my-butt' build. Although I will be using a Tamiya Valentine as my base model, an awful lot is going to be chopped and changed - however, hopefully, enough will remain to show off the Vigilante's Valentine roots.

Most of the work will be back to good ol' scratch build but I will, unashamedly, be calling on my CAD program and 3D printer to help out with some of the more complex shapes.  I'm planning to tackle the project in 3 stages: first the hull, then the running gear and lastly the turret. The hull is a big chunk but should be relatively straight forward. The running gear I just know is going to cause me sleepless nights and the gods only know what fun I will have with the turret... We all love a challenge!

Anyhoo, here are the first WIP pic...




(Yes, I know the mid-hull section on the right is back to front - I swear it wasn't when I took the photo!!)

Great start! Watching with interest ... but most intrigued to see how you eventually handle the turret mods  :smiley:

The front of the drawings is more Matilda than Valentine, however, I can see the benefit of using Valentine as it is perhaps a bit more spacious

Either way.. pretty sure I will be along for a pleasant ride during this.

Cruiser Tank Vigilante Update:

Steady progress with the hull at last becoming something I can get my hands around and looking vaguely tank-like. The new Matilda-like nose has been adapted and welded in place. The sides of the hull have been boxed in with enough space to accommodate the Christie suspension and the new cooling fans and exhaust system...

Looking good!  Is the bit bulking out around the turret surround 3D printed? If not, what kind of plastic is it?

It is indeed.  I started off making it out of plastic/styrene strip, sheet and bits of square tubing but the size was awkward and I just couldn’t get a square result that I was happy with.  The 3D printer is nothing if not accurate…  ;)
