From 2000 inwards, the EAC has a squadron equiped with F/A-18C/Ds tasked with maritime operations (both air-to-air and air-to-sea).

To supplement the Hornets, the IAC has received later Dassault Rafales; these are tasked with air defence and precision strikes.

What if... The French had a less independent Nuclear policy and exported their nuclear devices and the delivering aircraft?
Here is a Belgium Mirage IVBN

Thank you.
In the early 80's the Força Aérea Portuguesa needed new combat aircraft. Although initially the F-5E was selected, this was not to be. Instead 2 squadrons of the A-7 were received. This took care of the attack missions, but air defence was still in need. LTV made an offer that was eventually accepted; a squadron of modified F-8s; these aircraft had a new radome housing a more modern and powerful radar and thus the aircraft could be armed with the AIM-7 Sparrow AAM; we can see here a typical air-to-air load out. 4 AIM-9P and two AIM-7s

The fearsome Mirage F1EEi, carrying Exocet anti-ship missiles and with in-flight refuelling capability  represented a valuable asset to the IAC.
I haven't been a fan of Mirage F1 but this one looks great  :-*
