I've found some 3D printed resin .50cal flexible feed chutes in the stash (& ordered some more - from these guys, Black Ops Models, out of Sydney).

After all, there's room under the turret for the old twin-.50 tub, which had two trays of about 1000rnds per gun & the space no longer occupied by the gunner. So my idea is 4 x trays of 1000(maybe 1200)rnds feeding the quad-.50 through flex-feed chutes coming up through the turret floor - at 600rpm that's about 2 minutes of continuous firing without the need to reload. :D

I think the 3D printed resin that the .50cal feed chutes are made of has beaten me ... For the moment.

It takes more effort than ordinary polymer resin to bend &, when it does, it can take two or three re-heats with it clamped into position before the bends hold.

Then woe-betide you if any heat gets near the bent area again, as it flicks straight back to being straight!  :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o


So, tomorrow later today, I'm going to clean up the workspace, put the PBRs aside, & find something else to build, a plane, which fits into my vehicle/watercraft/aircraft cycle.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions about the resin issues and difficulties encountered. 

I sought out an alternative in the form of 1/32nd scale ammunition feed chutes made from a rubbery material that was included in the large scale Trumpeter aircraft model kits like the P-47 Thunderbolt.  Not the perfect solution but definitely a better option than what you are dealing with.

Apparently, that sort of form-memory 'hysteresis' is really hard to design in to plastics. Unless you don't want it there, I guess?

Watched your theme music for this build, very entertaining  8) 8)

As per the usual excellent application of your "detail eye" that's some great work there on show. The detailing is extra good and your finish on the boats is excellent. I can't believe you can get those rubbish SMS paints to work, well done!!

Nicely thought out WHIFFING there, mind you I do have a thought. . .
The thought. . . . , not second guessing, but interested wondering, would the quads be rather heavy for a boat of this size upsetting it's ride on the plane, top speed and manoeuvrability? I mean I wouldn't put a truck mount Vulcan there either but what about a pair of Miniguns on a common mount with a huge ammo supply? I know a 7.62mm Minigun wouldn't have the penetrative power of a .50Cal to shoot through obstacles (like the bush) but weight of fire counts.

Ignoring my "thought intrusion" though, keep up the amazing builds Wombat as I know they'll be worth viewing the final product.
