New Model Kit News/Reviews / Re: ICM

You're right. The Hercules would be the most plausible ... and, technically, fits within raafif[/i]'s "1950s/60s/70s" query.

I based my Lincoln suggestion on the RCAF's pair of Lancaster 10DC launch aircraft. Which reminds me, should anyone want 'that other scale', Belcher Bits offers a 1/72 KDA-1 kit with Lanc pylons.

And that raises a question: Did RCAF Lancaster 10DCs ever carry twin Firebees? IIRC, all the photos I have seen of KB848 and KB851 as 'DCs, show them carrying a single KDA-1 (despite twin pylons being fitted),

BTW, on the attached images, note that the Firebee is wearing USAF markings.

I've been looking for a 'reasonably priced' kit for this. It looks like I may have to buy a 3D file, get it printed and scratch-build most of it.

Looking at this paper model, it seems as if the basic form of the Simba could be readily created out of plastic card. By contrast, the Odyssey 3D kit looks like it would need plenty of clean-up and scratch-building, as you said.

If you'd need to replace so much - like those over-scale exhaust covers, for example - creating your own body might be simpler and faster. Of course, that would depend very much upon whether you've got appropriate wheels and other bits-and-bobs in your spares box.

I like those ideas but I suspect the most realistic would be the C-130:  RAAF acquired their first in 1958 and have operated one form or another continuously since...without incident!

That looks great, Jeff - You could turn it into a generator by putting one or two small plastic rods between the pump coils, to act as switches. It probably needs cooling vents/a fan housing on top/exhaust pipe just to be slightly more realistic.
