What if spanish army decides to extend the life of their ageing M60 and Leo2A4 turrets by mounting them on ASCOD hulls?

Pre-empting the ASCOD 2 MMBT:

Not sure how the turret size/weight of the Leo2/M60 compares to the Leonardo HITFACT turret

Not sure how the turret size/weight of the Leo2/M60 compares to the Leonardo HITFACT turret

According to NATO, the reduced weight 120mm HITFACT weighs "5,800 kg in the basic armour configuration, with commander’s panoramic periscope, gunner’s aiming optics, 7.62  mm coaxial machine gun, 7.62 mm commander’s machine gun, and 12.7 mm loader’s machine gun."

Leopard 2 turrets weigh between 16 and 21 tonnes (with the Leopard 2E closer to the latter weight).

Yeah...so a Leo 2 turret might be a tad heavy.

What about an air defence version with guns and/or SAMs?  Or perhaps a dedicated anti-tank version with ATGMs?

Digging through my photos, I was surprized to find that I have snapped the ASCOD a time or two:

Is there any link between the ASCOD series and the TH-495 concept?

Competing designs as far as I know.
