Well the tug driver should have been able to see it clear as day, I've been stationed close enough to A320's to know. I'm wondering if the driver had jumped out of the truck without putting it in park first (I've seen that at the airport), and the truck drove itself under it. The article I read said they had to retract the nose gear and lower the nose to get it out.
