Grumman JOV-1A Mohawk - Roden 1:48
« on: May 12, 2025, 12:12:29 AM »
Hello everyone,
I'm starting to assemble this Roden kit:

by Rodolfo Masti, on Flickr

To replicate the Grumman JOV-1A Mohawk, s/n 60-3736, 225th Aviation Company, "Phantom Hawks", flown by Capt. Mike Langer, Vietnam, December 1964

A quick look inside the box:

These are the aftermarkets that I will use ...

I am looking for more information and photographs of the original aircraft and if anyone could help I would be very grateful.

The Mohawk is such an unusual aircraft.

I love that boxtop; Valery Grygorenko was killed by the Russians at the start of the war.

A few modifications are needed to fit the Quickboost cowlings.

I tried to install Quickboost ejector seats in the cockpit but found that they were too bulky to fit.
So, I used the ejector seats from the box and added Eduard photo etchings... This is the result...

I had to redo the masking on some of the glazing because the pre-cut masks from Montex were not sticking and kept peeling off
... anyway here is the result after puttying, sanding and priming ...

It does indeed! Nice work (as always) Rodolfo   :D

And, in all-over grey primer, the Mohawk does look rather spooky and intimidating

 :o :o :o
I encountered an unexpected problem: the decals disintegrated in my hand.
Now, I am forced to redo the lines using airbrush, a black line primer, masking tape and dark grey.
Hopefully, it will work!
