Jet Propelled Flying N.A.A.F.I.
« on: November 15, 2024, 12:00:42 PM »
Not quite as The Goon Show envisioned it many years ago, but since it was powered by a Napier Gazelle, it's still a jet, right?

Since it represents a pre-service variant, the backstory is a piece of cake; it was purchased as a flying N.A.A.F.I. instead of a troop hauler. Because why not?  And yes, I understand that there are many problems.

Brilliant idea!  "A nice cuppa, lovee?"

... it was purchased as a flying N.A.A.F.I. instead of a troop hauler...

So, loading door converted into a raised awning for serving?

Ordered one of these yesterday, be interesting to hear if it really is as bad as you hear.

Yes, I will be whiffing mine.

Those undercarriage legs look awfully insect-like & draggy - I will contemplate doing a retracing type.

I've heard the Goons episode you refer too  interested to see how this one pans out.

I was going to buy that kit but the reviews were so bad I wimped out, I belive there is a better one in the pipeline from another manufacturer,

But I've forgotten which one  !

Good luck with the build  ;)

Let us know if you remember !!  The Airfix one is good for whiffing but so inaccurate that nothing can be done to improve it.

There is a comprehensive book in the pipeline but it it keeps being bumped for more popular subjects like B-17s  :icon_twisted:

Let us know if you remember...

A year or so back, Mikro-Mir was preparing 3D models for Bristol 192 kits in 1/72 and 1/48 scale. Maybe that was what 'Mog was remembering?

Hmmm  just checked out other mikro-mir kits I think the price may be way above my pay grade shame.

They have some interesting subjects but paying around £50 for something you could possibly get for £15-£20 is too rich for me

Slogging along on the front end. Tape seat belts - overscale but quick. Added a collective pitch control, also overscale, but who will notice anyway? Scrap bit I found and trimmed makes the cyclic look better, the original was just a short stub. Lashed up a control panel to replace the non-existent kit one. Shimmed the front to fix 'yahAg' (yet another huge Airfix gap), although not as bad as the one on the Bristol Superfreighter. Masked the whole thing as best I could, so after painting a few fake dials on the panel I guess it's ready to attach.

A fair bit of touch-up to do, mostly around the canopy, but it's coming together.

Lashed up a tea urn with spigot. No, it's not overscale, this is the British Army we're talking about, LOTS of tea required! And a basic welcoming sign. You'll also notice that I installed a simple floor.

Actually I thought the tea urn was too small.  You could've sealed all the gaps & made it into a "wet" fuselage ... AKA a Tea-Tanker
