RCAF CT-103A Puffin

RCAF CT-103A Puffin. Radar trainer for the CF-110A Phantom II.  1/72 Airfix Domine T.1 with Monogram F-4D nose and 2 additional engines from another Dominie. Known as "Jimmy" by the crews. A nod to Jimmy Durante.

Most intriguing start, all the more so because there was an offer of F-4D's made to the Canadians.  It would be an interesting aircraft to see in Canadian markings and color schemes; likely followed on by the F-4E for tactical operations.

Excellent concept! Love the quad Vipers  :smiley:

Now you've got me imagining a CT-103B Pinocchio-replacement with CF-104 NASARR nose. And, of course, the ultimate Puffin - the Canadair-built 'CE-103C' with twin General Electric J85s (as per the CT-114 Tutor). The latter would have 1,000 lbf less thrust per engine made up for by reduced empty weight.

Having seen a lot of different business jets at YYC which have honking big engines mounted, how about the engines off an A-10

Oh, that's clever! I was going for RCAF/CAF commonality with the J88/CJ610. You lose that a bit with the 30 Series' TFE731 upgrade. (The CAF CC-117s had CF700/TF37s ... but Canada probably wouldn't have bought those Falcons if they already had Dominies in service.)

Ah, you have uncovered my secret agenda. Canadair sells CL-215s to the UK to put out peat bog fires and in return have to buy Domine's.
