Bristol Aerospace CF-5C Frozen Freedom Fighter
« on: November 08, 2018, 08:36:37 AM »
Here is a small project I have been working on.

A Bristol Aerospace CF-5C "Frozen Freedom Fighter". It was an indigenous Canadian design to solve a CRAPP(Y) problem.

1/72 ESCI CRF-5A with Hasegawa F-20 nose and wings.

Noice !!!!

Got a couple of those Esci CF-5's in the stash, and a couple of the Italeri rebox

Did I ever mention I had the opportunity to work on a real CF-116, one for The Military Museum in Calgary. It was to redesign the mounting pole and the fuselage was in my brother's workshop yard for nearly a year.

This one below - 116707.

Cool!

Wonder if it could use an extended avionics hump (like the Scooter or MiG-21) down the spine and some additional antennas on the tail and fuselage to "update" the look a bit?

This is a great idea Paul. I'll ensure my next F-5/F-20 build gets this.

Excellent concept Carl! - the ultimate CF-5 upgrade  :D

Beautiful concept!!  I'm certain Northrop Aircraft would be envious.

Yup. And then, as with the Bristol Aerospace reman programme, threats of lawsuits would follow  ;)

Lots of progress.  Only the canopy and Sidewinders are missing. Had to use the CF-5A centerline drop tank due to the location of speed brakes. Pleased with the fuselage/wing seam.

Paint going on this week.

It's looking really good! Is the landing gear from the kit - it looks like a naval aircraft gear or beefed up to land on unimproved fields.

The gear is kit stock and yes, I too was surprised by the design and size of the landing gear.
