PEG-38 Lightnegg
« on: March 03, 2017, 12:16:02 PM »
PayPal informed me that my card was expired and I had to enter the new one. Then I discovered I had money there, from a cancelled order of cloth some time ago. What to do with that? Ordering a model kit of course...
I ordered yesterday Hasegawa's P-38 Egg Plane, just 2 copies were still available... (sigh of relief):

The Kit should arrive home 20-23 March (2017, I hope...), but in the meantime I may dream of how I will build it, or butcher it (PEG-38A,B,C):

or P-38G, H, I (maybe the version code i didn't exist in USAAF, but I want to keep J for a jet version, next):

So here are the PEG-38J, K, L. That makes a total of 12 versions (up to now), which one to build? ??? ;)

Thanks!
I remember your one, Ericr, that was so marvelous... but Hasegawa did not produce it anymore. Just in 2016 it seems it has been produced again, I needed to join your club of Lucky ones...
At last, my favorite layout may be the jet helicopter compound PEG-38M below:

The PEG-38N would be a different helicopter, less fast & less crazy:

To complete the set of 3, I have added the PEG-38P, with booms cut in the middle...

More "logical" are the PEG-38Q and R (below), but this is less funy... I think I will build the PEG-38M helicopter.

The canard one? Interesting opinion, thanks, I will see when I receive the kit and see the parts. If not too much PSR work, this could be.

Still about 10 days for the kit to arrive...
In the meantime, I keep on dreaming : here are the PEG-38S & T

The PEG-38Z must be a Zwilling double-plane (and I could have bought the 2 available copies of P-38 eggplane, even if I haven't)... PEG-38Y and X could be similar and different, but I will need to fill the gap (what will be the PEG-38 U, V, W???)

At last, I have found them in the archives:

In the end you decided what you will do Cristophe?

If the parts make it possible easily, the canard D may be my choice. Otherwise my favourite may be the helicopter-jet M. ;)

For the canard D version, I would have to saw away following the red lines below, then hope the contact is all right with the rest without too much PSR... I fear this is too much work for me...

On the opposite: for the M jet version, the amount of work is much more than I hoped, as a plain area between boom and propeller has to be cut/removed (see the red arrows, on the parts hold by adhesive tape):

As well, it will be very difficult to remove the cooling devices on the booms (orange arrow below): there are not extra parts to glue or not, but this has to be cut off from the main parts, leaving a very fragile part to hold the tail (+ lots of putty-sanding-repeat)...

As the very easy M (crazy) project seems impossible to do, this will be a matter of hard work, and I must find deep courage...
Thus I could accept difficulty of the D way also, up to a D-M mix: PEG-38AA, an egg-Lightning simply "canard" + "jet" + "helicopter", not normal all right ;)

To simplify: no need to truncate the tailplane into 3 parts: a plain foreplane, very low, would be even better for the USAAF (wanting the P-38 nose to send kisses forward or something)... ???

The plastic is hard to cut, the blade is straight and dangerous... it is not easy to transform a piston engine into a jet, even for a plastic modeller ;)
