Spectrum is Green - SPV to go

I have had this kit in the stash for a little while, the Lark 1/32 Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle from the original Captain Scarlet. It is a Japanese resin kit very basic but given the vast numbers of SPV kits out there........


Very basic parts, but interesting in that the tyres are cast in black resin. Nice, but unnecessary


Some mould misalignment that needs to be attacked with the file


One of the doors is cast open with no interior so a quick web seach give some basic drawing from Captain Scarlet annuals and the like and enough for me to make up the res


Control Consoles


Of course something this size, graily and interesting needs lights. Driving lights added in and more mold misalignment for clean up

 And some interior lighting


Test shot with the wheels on and/or floating around, plus a 1/35 figure to give an idea of size


So given today was an official do nothing outside day I appeared to have got plenty done. Well the easy stuff anyway.
But happy where I am so far with this.

looks good :)

but i find it strange to drive while sitting backwards (i would get sick on the bus sitting with my back against direction.)

Very nice!!!

I have always loved the SPV, I still have the Dinky one at home (along with the Maximum Security Vehicle & Spectrum Patrol Car), Captain Scarlet from the SPV appears with the Viper I'm building.

I have seen these resin models for sale before but didn't know the quality, from the photo's it doesn't look to bad. I so wish someone did a 1/24th version!

I'll be following this build with interest, lovely work so far.

 The interior and lighting look great! I see Crazy Ivan from the "Russian tankers on vacation in Afghanistan" set is on the job.

thanks for the feedback so far.

We have progress, that is the trouble of having a low attention span and too many projects.
So some more SPV
The interior pretty much complete with the lights still working.. bonus !!!


Had to redo some of the soft detail on the mega bumper

Well it is what I would call "cosy" inside if you were to sit two figures inside. All a bit Tardis really. But is sort of looks the part.
next is final fittings then the painting show to get that nice metallic blue

Spectrum is green.

Well almost not due to this

This was a case of enamel over acrylic.....Gaaaaaaaargh!!!. Yes, I should have known better, but the madder red was just right.
 Resand. Again. And this time use the dodgy decals rather than trying to be clever. Dont ask about the pinholes.

As it turned out the decals were average but useable. Added a few more due to the scale. The Spectrum Logos are from the Airfix Angel Interceptor as they were much, much, much better than the kit decals

With lazy Engineer Ivan from the Spectrum workshop in attendance

Didn't know of this vehicle.  I must not get around much.

Great job, Brian.

I've been a fan of Anderson hardware for a long time, but I just realized the air scoops on the SPV dont go anywhere...the doors open directly behind them and there's no tubage or ducts...still is a cool looking thing.

Well somebody sort of had a crack at this very issue. This cutaway

Shows them sort of disappearing down in a duct. Although practically this would be improbable as with the doors where they are it is nigh on impossible to do it.
I ignored it and used the magic factor ;)

Great build: looks really good now it's done, despite the paint disaster.

Re the ducts, they could be radiators, rather than ducts. I know radiators still need airflow, but it can be pretty folded: just look at the setup on some motorbikes.

Alternatively, they could simply be vertical air vents which open into the cabin: just what you need to cool you down from the sweat of driving backwards!  ;)

Great paint job. Is that gray with aluminum panels? The interior is fantastic, too. So how does Ivan get in and out with that massive door blocking most of the opening? I bet it would take a while, especially after a little vodka (or a field-expedient anti-freeze martini.)
