That one definitely looks like it's a "should be" rather than a "what if"!!  that's an entirely gorgeous aircraft.

here comes, in the very same 1/72 scale, a Tomcat mixed with a B-17G fuselage I had left from an earlier project :



here too the wings are movable (but not together, individually)

Looks cool.  I would've tried for more and faired over those wing stubs but, here, they add character.

I have thought about that question of wing stubs indeed : then the intakes fit nicely with them, so I thought it was not bad like that, as a flat surface jleading to the air intake.
