I believe at least most airworthy Russian WW2 airplanes have western engines: MiG-3, Il-2, various Yaks - whether operated in Russia or elsewhere. Either Allisons, or radials of suitable size.

That's an interesting shot Greg --- so if the shock wave is throwing the air out over the intakes like that, how is the air getting back to the rear shock wave ?
