Tiny Little Steamboat...in a steampunk kind of way
« on: May 29, 2013, 06:29:46 PM »
Hello everybody

This is a tiny little project that I did a few months ago: a small steamboat that I later used as an accessory in a bigger steampunk diorama.

The scale is N (1:160 or so), which is a good thing because you have plenty of figures to choose from, from the scale modelling railroad world!

The original hull was savaged from a lifeboat stolen from the "La Superbe" ship (Heller).

The rest is just bits and pieces of plastic and metal scratchbuilt into something that remotely seems like a steam engine and related stuff:

For those not familiar with the 1 Eurocent coin dimensions, it is roughly 15% smaller that the US penny :)

The painting phase photos will follow shortly!

Welcome to Beyond The Sprues.

What kind of steam plant powers this little boat of yours.  Is it a nuclear reactor or a conventional fossil fuel fired boiler?  There is certainly a lot of detail in your little model boat.

RE: 1 Eurocent.  Is that coin close to the German Pfennig in size?

Thanks guys!

And here it is, with paint:

And the last one, with the proverbial coin again :)

(just to answer to Jeffry, the german pfennig dissapeared in 2002, when the euro replaced the german mark,
mas it had exactly the same dimensions as the current euro-cent).

I hope you enjoy it!

This tiny little one will appear shortly  as an "adornment" in a bigger diorama
featuring a XIX th century US made Portuguese ironclad ship (also with a steampunk twist, of course).

I still have to translate to English the ficcional story that I invented to locate the action.

Welcome to BTS, Antonio! That's a great looking little steamboat. It reminds me of The African Queen
