Moebius Models
« on: September 26, 2012, 05:35:20 AM »
While most of their product line is beyond my scope of interest this latest release from Moebius Models did get my attention.

Click on image to see product announcement.

A 1/72nd scale model of the USS Skipjack (SSN-585) class nuclear powered attack submarine (kit number 1400).

The kit is now available for consumption from Squadron: 1:72 Moebius Models USS Skipjack - MW01400

As a 1/72nd scale kit this model is large enough for building as a remote radio control model or in Brian (da Basher)'s case one very large airship :)

Thatz right Jeff.
Going with Brian's school of upsidedown subs.
Looks good as blimp for that 1/72 diorama I dream of building some day or year.

The first thing I thought of when I saw this model was an airship. I blame Brian for that!  :P

The Skipjack would look good as a blimp as it has a distinct teardrop shape.

I'm thinking that with the addition of a couple of engine nacelles, the Proteus could become a snazzy little Star Trek run about...

to paraphrase Holy Grail
I already got one...

This is the rather spectactular Stargazer Models 1/144 resin kit.. no doubt the Moebius may be more cost effective.
Either way it is an impressive ship

so while I have the brag book open, this is some extra work I put in to light up the pod bay and a pod

WOW!!! Nice build!!  I read up on some of the reviews and I am curious as to what you used to build the internal spine for the spine?

Did you also build the 1/144 Aries 1-B and Orion Spaceplane?

To sort of hijack this whats new thread a bit, I used brass tube for the spine, but the model on the "stand" is supported at the Crew module and the propulsion unit,  so really there is no real engineering genius.

As to the last bit.. yes and yes.. both fantastic, but Stargazer himself is a good friend of mine and I did get both kits at a "mates rates" price, however the research that has gone into each and the quality of the kits is excellent. I will post up some pix of my 2001 stuff each in the appropriate forum

And I do like the alternative option GTX posted as well

Well, as large radiators they would.  Look at the thermal control system radiators on the ISS (I'm intimately familiar with the external thermal control systems on it).
