M10 with 105mm
« on: December 27, 2025, 06:13:50 PM »
Whilst procrastinating over finishing the Drone Base Vehicle, I have been rolling over 3 Real world shelf models which were close but not quite done over the Christmas period.
One is a Sherman M4 (105mm) and this is awaiting different tracks, as I plan to do a British Sherman 1B version. The turret was off and to paraphrase Billy Connelly..Wait a mannet !  What does it look look on the M10 hull I have stashed away with no turret (used on another project).

It looks like this. Not too unruly for my eye.

So what if, during the Russian continuation of WW2 after attacking the exhausted Allies through Germany, vehicles were re-used with different components (Straight out of Colin Gee's Red Gambit books)
So, maybe there are Achilles and M10 hulls that are refitted using 105mm Sherman Turrets, to give a fully armoured Closed top Support Gun vehicle. I figure if the 17 pounder fits an M10 and the Sherman.. then why not the other way using the 105mm ? Adapt a turret to fit. In RW there was some initial work for for a Turret for the M10 chassis with a bigger gun than the 3Inch, maybe the M36 Jackson killed that off.

Printed a Sherman Turret off Thingiverse. This is the test print, the final version was a bit more modifed by removing the hatches that were pretty much going to get trashed anyway during the cleanup process.

Starting to get the vision I see in  my head happening in Plastic. Mantlet is test fit at the moment, will probably go a heavier type.

Details added to the Turret

Sort of looks a bit RAM ish. Maybe it could be Canadian, if British floats the boat.. I reckon I will call it the Curate, to stick with the ecclesiastica names for SP Guns.

I like what you have done to your M10 hull.  Similar plans here for a "cruiser tank" based on the M10 hull with T23 turret/76mm and HVSS.  If I had a Firefly turret it might have gone differently.

The changes made on your assistant driver hatch caught my eye.  Is that now just an access port for passing ammunition?

nice print. You can try printing the turret with the fuzzy skin setting turned on. I'm not sure how well it'll work on the turret sides, but it may give it a cast look (and make print line cleanup a bit easier if it doesn't look good)

Yes, I would think that Co-driver would now be ammo space.

A better mantlet I think, chunkier. Now it probably needs a canvas shroud, so onto that at some stage.

Thanks Frank, these are good enough for this type of build, make them simple to get clean up a bit easier. Although I will look into this Fuzzy Skin, if the doctored version of Cura I have for my Elegoo has it.

Tick this one off. Quick build only whilst waiting for other stuff

Mantlet now has a dust cover. Also added a small bit of counterweight to the rear as the Mantlet is a bit chunkier than normal, as it is the 76mm version.

Went the British markings as nothing in my decal stash for US worked for me. For the (ever so brief) backstory, it will do.

This plot twist makes me think there should be a "Depot Level Rebuilds" Group Build thread.

He says, after I build the assault gun Sherman! Of course I’ll just have to build another one! A 1946 version with an OD green and black paint scheme.

Nice, always wondered what an M10 with a normal Sherman turret would look like.

 nice job.  Now what to do with the M10 turret ?

Taiwan mounted captured Japanese Type 91 105mm Howitzers in at least eight vehicles.
