'Space: 1959' - Firestar Space Fighter
« on: August 18, 2025, 01:40:50 AM »
Okay, another one from me, the Firestar Space Fighter.
After the Phoenix Interceptor came out too large for this, I've worked out a design based on the early type Mig-21.
I'm using the Academy MiG-21 FIshbed kit. Here are the fuselage halves off the runner,

and after gluing them together. I've already started the modification work, fin cut down, ventral fin removed, wing locating slots filled in, and nose end trimmed ready for modification.

That's All For Now, Stay Tuned . . .

cheers,
Robin.

Nice work on blending in the new nose to the MiG fuselage.  Definitely makes it unique in appearance.

For sure! I like how the nose tapers down and then bulges out again slightly for the radome - the exact evolutionary process we see on so many fighter aircraft with larger radar scanner then originally planned. Beautiful detail

Thanks, Gents,  :-[   :D
I had to simplify this Build somewhat, as time was getting short, so some of the details didn't happen, but never mind, 'less is more', as they say . . .
I'd like to claim credit for designing the funky nose, but sadly it's just a consequence of using a pre-defined shape, which I 3-D printed, after sizing it to the kit nose. The original idea was to have it smoothly faired in, but this would have involved a lot of trial and error, and wasted resin, so I just stuck the part on, and hoped.

 cheers,
Robin.
