Captured B1.bis
« on: October 04, 2024, 07:43:28 AM »
Another forgotten build back ... (this is the seventh forgotten build I've got back to this year).

This B1.bis with rear pusher-bar & fuel-tank added was captured after the turret was severely damaged in combat.  The panzer maintenance troop replaced the gun with one more suited to target Allied tanks.  As they couldn’t repair the turret (I used it on another build last year), it will have a smaller gun to target escaping allied tank crew & infantry.

Still have to find a suitable cam scheme – maybe a colourful French one like those in WW1.

Good derivative.

I could also see something like that being cobbled up by one of the Panzer training schools.  Is your main gun offset or centermounted?

Panzerkampfwagen B-2 740(f) als Schulfahrzeug: Turretless driver training tanks.

Panzer schools, such as Paderborn and Bergen, had long been turning out exceptional replacement tank crews for the Wehrmacht. In these last days, experienced officers and cadets were few and fuel and ammunition for practice were running out. Nevertheless, each school organised its assets into Panzer Ausbildungs Verbände (Replacement Tank Forces).

While forced to fight with old equipment, the Ausbildungs units fought hard in those final battles against overwhelming odds. Yet, these last panzer units did not give up until they had fired their last bullet or shell, or lost their last tank in defence of the Reich.

The Char B is one vehicle I have not had much interest in. This now might be changing.

Thanks for this, I like the concept.

Seems like a fairly logical extrapolation. May have to try something like this with the old Matchbox kit I have.

I started getting stuff for that before I realised it was 1/76 and not 1/72 :(

Raafif - Great concept! Are you going to cap the turret ring?

1/76 isn't too far off from 1/72. If you put a 1/72 figure next to the 1/76 Matchbox tank, it would appear to be about as tall as Dr. Yo (or Wombat) IRL.

That came out great! The MG goes a long way towards making the B1.bis look less obsolescent.

If you're after some inspiration, there is a mine roller variant of the B.1 Bis. AFAIK only 1 was built and its currently in storage at Saumur.
