Egyptian in-your-face
« on: October 03, 2024, 06:17:00 AM »
Another model I started a while ago - T-34/100 - Egypt mounted a Russian BS-3 artillery piece in a modified T-34/85 turret, around 15 were built as mobile long-range arty.  To make the gun fit they reversed the turret mounting the gun in the cut-open rear & building an extension for the ammo in what was the front section.

Model is a Tamiya hull with Marquette wheels & tracks and AEF Designs resin turret with scratch-built gun.

Neato. Did you take any in-process pics of the gun build?

Sorry, no gun build pics as I got stuck in after much prevarication & if I had stopped I wouldn't start again.

The turret halves didn’t match perfectly so had to add a 1mm thick panel to the lower edge of one side of the ammo-storage area & putty it in.
Paint is Humbrol 121 Light Stone applied in many coats by airbrush.

Now back to those horrible single-link tracks - unfortunately the paint made the Tamiya rubber track hard so the slightly larger Marquette wheels prevented those from fitting.

A bit about the gun build - many parts were used - everything from the spares-box
Barrel is made up of section of tapered barrel from an old Nitto kit, joined to a section of a pen & joined to a breech-block from an old Tamiya Tiger-1? with a metal ferrule from somewhere.  Muzzel-brake from an old Italeri Elephant? with new front piece.  Under it is a length of plastruct girder with bits of Tamiya 2cm gun parts & half a barrel (railway accessory) on its front.  Various bits added to the breech-block so it looks like the photos.

Its now 97% finished, only have to do the tracks & then the cam scheme.

Finally finished it, may have to root around for two figures to man it.

Your finished model looks quite impressive and the camouflage scheme is nicely done.  Well done sir, well done!  Bravo-Zulu!

Nice work, I would love to build one myself but as you've shown you need to cobble together multiple rare kits and aftermarket parts together to build one. When RFM released the T-34/122 I was hoping they might release a T-34/100 too but unfortunately not..

Thanks all for your nice comments.

Mig Eater - Accurate Armour used to do open-topped turret conversions for both the T-34/122 & T-34/100 - you may be able to find them on ebay, Hyperscale, TankTalk etc.  Coupled with DML T-34 hulls its do-able.

My next build may be the Cuban T-34/122 Howitzer - have the kits - Marquette hull + Trumpeter Howitzer - despite the high cost.

I've looked at the Accurate Armour conversion in the past but its just the turret shell, you still need to get a hull and the 100mm gun separately yourself. Accurate Armour is in process of closing down too so their products are shooting up in price on the secondhand market now :(

Ah the Cuban T-34/100, I have that on my to-do list too. I have a suitable Miniart T-34 kit ready for the project but the Trumpeter KS-19 100mm gun has been out of stock at my usual suppliers for awhile. I look forward to seeing how your build goes
