This is my build for the The Antipodes/ANZAC GB over on What If Modellers.
The build will, in some small way, I hope, honour our Kiwi comrades & one Australian (Kiwi Zac, Ian the Kiwi Herder, Rick Lowe, & the late Wardukw (Phill Harrison) & Rickshaw (Brian Ross), who both passed away earlier this year).
I started it on the 2nd August.

She's currently trussed up like a turkey while the wings (hopefully) bond with the supports I've stuck through the fuselage.

I forgot to mention that the wings are from a Revell 1/72 Arado (E) 555 - Although you'd probably figured that out. ;)
My initial plan was to stick them on a Tamiya 1/48 Douglas F4D-1 but the Fords are getting more difficult to come by.
So, I looked at sticking them on either a SEPECAT Jaguar (Heller Jag A) or this Tornado. Turned out the Tornado was the easier to convert to a tail-less design.
Then the The Antipodes/ANZAC GB came along &, considering I'd been discussing this build with Wardukw (Phill), someone (Rick Lowe, actually) mentioned "what if the continent of Zealandia hadn't sunk", & that, I figured, was the perfect opportunity to build this beastie.

Still pottering away. Indoors weather today, so I'll try to get something done.
I'll probably work on the forward section, get the cockpit done. It'll be a bit basic because I'm only using kit parts & styrene stock for the build, plus, maybe, a few of my generic cockpit dial decals.
Then I can put the completed forward section aside while I finish off the rear & wings.
Oh, man, is there going to be some PSR there! :o

I've figured out the primary load-out for the BR-26 ... 2 x Sea Eagle (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_Eagle_(missile))s & 2 x ASM-3A (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASM-3)s.
The Sea Eagles are from the old-mould Airfix 1/48 Buccaneer, the Orange Hobby ASM-3As have just been ordered from BNA Model World.
I may add drop tanks but, if you look at those big lumps off to either side of the fuselage as wet wings, that's a lot of fuel she's carrying!

Is currently rubber-banded & clamped together waiting for the glue to do its thing. The bang-seats are, of course, going in just before she's buttoned up & the paint starts going down.

Day Four since the wings went on & the high-risk option I took to get the wings to stay on has resulted in some issues.
Against my better judgement I used sprue-goo to fill the gaps between the inner surface of the wings & the rectangular styrene bar stock I used to support them. I knew the better option was to work out the gap & make a triangular structure to support the wings & act as a gluing surface. Instead I took the "quick & easy" option.
After four days, I thought I'd gotten away with it but, tonight, just after I glued on the front fuselage, there they were - five sink marks of varying levels of embuggerance.
I'll start working on them now, but I expect to be adding more layers of putty over the next-few-days-to-a-week.
So much for "quick & easy", hey! ::)

I've hit the point of diminishing returns with the PSR, so it stops here.
Next I'll move on to the weapons, pylons, fuel tank & landing gear, while I sort out the paint into its final colours.

wOW! Talk about near=perfect fusions...
I was a little surprised at the wing choice-the planform is excellent, but I could have sworn the Arado wing was a lot thicker. Really like keeping the fuselage spine largely intact, too. Looking forward to the seeing it in paint.
I was saddened to learn of Rickshaw's passing. I haven't kept up with Whatif in ages.

The wing was much thicker, I cut out a wedge from the front of each wing, starting at about 7.5mm (1/4") & ending at the wing bend. This narrowed the depth of the wing considerably &, along with a bit of judicious filing & sanding, gave a sharper leading edge.
Keeping the intake for the generator/cooling on the spine was a great choice.
It was easier to leave than remove but I figured it could be for an APU &/or cooling for an onboard ECM system.
Will you be adding wing stores pylons to the Ar(E)555 wings?
Currently 2 x fuel tanks, 2 x AIM-9L/Ms (for self-defence), 2 x ASM-3As & modifying 2 x Sea Eagles (to a "locally produced variant"). So, she'll be loaded for a maritime strike role (in case that wasn't obvious).
Oh, & she'll be retaining the guns - but their barrel ends/muzzles will go on after the detail painting.

Well, that was a frustrating couple of hours, last night. :o
I was doing the last bit of parts clean-up on the last steering fin from my Sidewinders (AIM-9L/Ms) when it dropped out of my fingers, onto my leg & onto the floor with a gentle "click".
OK, can't be far.
Look down ... Nothing.
Carefully put my feet in obviously empty areas, stand up & lift my chair out of the way ... Nothing.
Anyway, long story short;
I spent almost 90 minutes looking for the damned thing! I even sent the other fins out looking for it, by dropping them onto the floor & watching where they went, sort of on the "set a thief to catch a thief" principle.
I did that at least 2 dozen times, even with my eyes closed, I even bounced some off my leg to imitate the original fall!
Apparently, Sidewinder fins aren't thieves - it didn't work.
None of them went further than 10" from where they landed, & most were in the 3"-4" range.
So, eventually, I gave up &, with a small amount of trepidation, used one of the fins from the atrocious single-piece Sidewinder from the old, original Airfix 1/48 Buccaneer kit (that got submarined) to scratch up a replacement.
Could have saved myself a lot of heartache, if I'd just done that to start with. ::)

The saga of missing parts continues with no boundaries being observed. I still have a missing muzzle brake from a 30mm Bushmaster lurking in the bedroom carpet that went missing about ten years back. I suspect it will eventually be rediscovered during an archeological dig several eons from now after the next ice age comes and goes

Yes, but that muzzle brake will only be recovered after the archeologists have chucked out the incomplete Bushmaster II kit ;)

OK, everything is coated in primer!
There are a few runs* that need to be fixed up BUT that will have to wait, along with everything else, until late next week, as the wife & I are heading to Port Lincoln to visit the elder daughter & the grandsons.
That's the bad news (Joking! ;) ) but the good news is that I have a further week off after we get back, which should (hopefully) be long enough to finish this girl off!
[*: It probably pays not to paint long, skinny missiles in a vertical alignment, especially on a cold night, when the paint is taking significantly longer than usual to dry. ::) ]

OK, got some metallics down, some more black, & the underside colour (SMS PL160 - RAAF Sky Grey).
I'm doing an odd scheme based on the Euro 1 scheme as used by the Kiwis from the mid-1980's, but not wrap-around as it usually is (note the sentence above).

Uppers painted over-all gunship grey (SMS PL121).
This will be one of the camo colours & the base for the other two (greens).
Mind you, she looks awesome in the solid gunship grey, though! :-*
If she was to be Royal Zealandia Navy, & used purely in the maritime strike role, I'd be tempted to leave her as she is but, as she's not & she isn't, she'll be getting the other colours. ;)

Went much better than I expected & almost nothing needs to be fixed. Almost! :icon_music:
Some detail painting is still required, but that is to be expected,
Then, of course, comes the pre-decal gloss coat & the final matt coat, with decal-applying in between.
Next task, though, is getting the weapons & landing gear finished! ;)

Go-Faster stripes would be good, but which style do I chose? Thin-thin? Thin-wide? Wide-wide? Thin-wide-thin? And what colour*? :-\
Painted flames can either look stunningly cool or really naff, besides, if we really want flames, we just need to hit the after-burners! 8)

Put the fuel dump nozzle in between the jet nozzles. You’ll get plenty of flames just like the F-111!

Put the fuel dump nozzle in between the jet nozzles. You’ll get plenty of flames just like the F-111!
I've heard that it was the RAAF that pioneered that for display flights, but I prefer the incandescence of a slightly rich mix on full after-burn, especially in twilight on a clear evening. ;)

They're 3D printed by Orange Hobby & are as close to idiot proof as you can get! ;)
Only two parts, the body & the nose. The fit is excellent but there are no locating lugs, so you have to get the alignment right while the glue sets (this is the only part where idiocy has a say - I almost stuffed it up ::) ).

Working on decals at the moment.
Slow going, as I'm being careful & making __it up as I go.
Currently have the national insignia, a few stencils & some artwork down. There's more to come, including (if I don't go completely crazy) a couple of names in 1mm tall dry transfer letters, each of which will need to be applied individually!
Not going overboard with them (apart from the 1mm dry transfers), just enough to make it look less boring.

GiB's name is even longer ... It can wait a day or two!
When that's done it'll be another coat of gloss to seal the decals;
then some light panel-line & weathering work;
followed by putting her on her feet & adding the weapons;
a light matt coat & a few finishing dabs of paint;
& off with the canopy masking*!
[*: This last is fraught, as I have no idea if there has been any seepage under the masking & the SMS paints I used are very aggressive at bonding to plastic.]
