Cheers Xen!

I'm still playing with sping-off ideas from your Alt BC ... although, here, I think I'm a decade off of your timeline. Anyway, a pair of AMC autos-turned-work-trucks (I'm a sucker for those little European cars-turned-panel-van).

On the left is a Gremlin UWV (Urban Work Vehicle) of BC  Tel. The rear of these UWVs were customised according to customer requirements. In the case of BC Tel Gremlins, exterior equipment boxes were fitted to either side along with a substantial roof rack for ladders and lineman's poles.

On the right is a Hornet Delivery - a mélange of 2-door sedan and estate panels. Burkeville Electricians have modified the standard AMC roof rack to attach ladders.

Oh wow I love those! The Gremlin in particular is just pure <3 ... to the extent that even though it's not likely BC Tel would be buying vehicles from anyone but Leyland or Bedford, I wanna include this... maybe they got a really good deal on a small batch of Brampton-built Gremlins...

Excellent! So glad that these are of interest. I was certain that these would be outside of your timeline. But, yeah, if they came from Brampton Assembly ... it could work.

The Gremlin UWV actually came as a bit of an afterthought. I began with that notion of a factory panel van combining bodywork from the Hornet 2-door with a station wagon roof and rear section. Then came the realisation that operators might be tempted to carry enough to over a Hornet rear suspension. So, I thought, maybe shorten the Hornet's rear end ... which seemed kinda familiar  ::)

BTW: The 'Brighouse' exchange name on the Burkeville Electrians' telephone number was intentionally anachronistic. In OTL, AFAIK, BC Tel switched from 'Br.7' to '277-' in 1968. But I was amused by the notion that letter prefixes might have hung on longer in Alt BC ...

I've sen Leyland P.76s converted from wrecks into wagons & utes.  The Mustang wagon looks horrible but how would a Mustang pick-up look  ???

Well, I do really like it! Maybe BC Tel sent them over to Utari Mosir, or some other similar place where they're not *that* much in the public eye... that Atlin/Bennett/Tatshenshini region seems a suitable spot...

Although I've worked out the postcode system, telephone exchanges aren't something I've given any thought at all to... don't give me (these kinds of) ideas :P

Sometimes, you can see something good in your mind ... only to have the pixel effort face-plate in shame!

A case in point, this Leyland P76 Force 7V with an AMX treatment applied  :P

My first thought on seeing it before seeing the text, is this is AMC's interpretation of a 240Z.

A bit of additional backstory to Andrew's A Hornet's Tale thread ...

When Hal Jackman offered the five Spartan Logistics Hornets as potential airframes for Counter-Terrorism (CT) / Counter-Insurgency (COIN) use, a suggested rebuild was part of the package. That relatively modest rebuild plan was the work of Field Aviation of Mississauga. However, under then-current procurement rules, Public Works & Government Service Canada insisted upon an open competition.

Kelowna Flightcraft (teamed with Marshall Aerospace) proposed an ever simpler upgrade than Field. The KF team believed that the DHC 103D was overpowered for the COIN role. As such, the thirsty,  2,250 shp Darts were to be replaced with far more fuel-efficient 1,800 shp PW118B turboprops. The wings would be rebuilt with hardpoints and a target pod was to be slung under the nose. The modernised cockpit would be fitted with a refurbished Stanley Yankee Extraction System seat. Unfortunately for KF and Marshall, DND rejected their concept, believing that all possible power would be needed when operating in hot-and-high environments.

By contrast, the rebuild offered by Bombardier Aerospace (partnered with L3 Harris) was very extensive. The powerplants were to be either 1,890 shp PW120A (for commonality with the CT-142 fleet) or 2,260 shp PW123AF (fitted with Bombardier 415 cowlings). Bombardier proposed the installation of twin wingtip fuel tanks. A Rafael Litening targeting pod would be fitted - with the E/O and FEU portions on the nose and the system electronics and power systems mounted separately under the rear fuselage.

The Bombardier COIN proposal turboprops exhaust above the wings (in Dash 8 fashion) to reduce the aircraft's thermal signature. Initially, Bombardier intended to deal with exhaust heat by replacing the horizontal tails with dihedralled Heron units which would be reclad in stainless steel. However, at the NRC's recommendation, this arrangement was replaced with an entirely new tailplane based upon the aerodynamics of the Dash 8 tail (which the NRC had extensively modelled and wind tunnel tested).

In its revised form, the rebuilt Hornet concept was submitted to DND as the Bombardier Blackfly. Unfortunately for the design team, DND rejected the Bombardier/L3 approach as being overly complex while PW&GSC found this submission to be excessively expensive.

As a result, the now-familiar CT-103 Spartan [1] emerged from Field Aviation complete with belly-mounted  targeting pod and the famous 'Keith Ferris' false canopy painted under its nose:

[1] DND briefly considered introducing a 'A' for Attack designation and, behind the scenes, the Spartan was sometimes referred to as the 'CA-103' in both Field and official DND documents.

As a Bombardier submission, I had to come up with enough semi-pointless changes to warrant a price that would be 3-to-4 time higher  ;)

Plus, I couldn't resist the Bombardier Blackfly name ... think ginormous midge with a bite to match its size  ;D

Prompted by Evan and Frank's discussion of turbojet-powered Thunderbolts, I've knocked this together (based on an Olivier Beernaert F-84E profile). The first mod was to shorten the fuselage a scale 15 inches (as per a Tommy Thomason article) for an early Thunderjet length.

Next, P-47 wings were substituted. With those wings comes a 'taildragger' undercarriage arrangement. In the Justo Miranda sketches accompanying the discussion, I believe that the space needed for a retractable tail wheel has been underestimated. To that end, I have enlarged the Thunderjet's tail bumper to create a mounting point and housing for a semi-retractable tail wheel.

As per the discussion, I have substituted a P-47D bubble canopy and dropped the F-84's ejection seat. In a scrap view, I have ghosted-in the positions of the main fuselage fuel tanks. The P-47 wings would also now be entirely filled with fuel - gun armament being moved to the nose on the F-84.

The result is certainly no 'looker' ... but, I believe, it is more plausible than the other posited jet Thunderbolt (re)arrangements.

I like the subtletly of it. A top view would probably betray the P-47 Wings pretty quickly :)

Back in Feb 2024, Hush-Kit published an article entitled AI attempts to draw British aircraft and we spit out our collective tea in awe at these magnificent obscenities. Hush-Kit's contribution was to provide the AI with aircraft names and nothing more (because, well, it was funnier that way).

At the bottom of the attached image is a copy of the AI's interpretation of what a de Havilland Mosquito would look like. An upside is that I am no longer embarrassed by my childhood attempts to depict real aircraft. Of course, the mini-me of many decades ago would have also search out additional details. Evidently such research was not part of the skill set for AI image generation at the time.

At the top of the attached is my attempt to capture the flavour of the AI-generated Mossie. I have ignored the most bizarre features - like tandem tailwheels and random 'features' - as well as omitting the Klingon squadron codes. I believe that the AI was trying to render a contra-prop but, since the spinner isn't long enough, I left it as a 4-blader. I also left on the inexplicable USAAC-style antennae ... but move the 'pole' further forward.

I suppose the take-home from all this is that the key to any success with AI image generation will be (at least for now) iterations corrected and guided by a human editor. Or, to put it another way, Artificial Intelligence can only function usefully when curbed and properly aided by Human Intelligence. Alas, if we offer AI our assistance, its image generation output will provide much less unintentional humour!
