Spalah 1/35 Scientist SSP-99
« on: July 30, 2025, 09:24:36 AM »
This is the second SPALAH figure I've built from their line of "STALKER" figures, "Scientist SSP-99 "Ecologist":

The vented cover for the scientist's instrument was lost at some point between printing and my getting the figure ready for paint. There were some minor print defects - a hole at the top of the figure's head and some minor delamination at the right elbow. That said... I painted - and stripped - this figure 7-8 times: I didn't get the black primer right. I didn't like the orange color. Now it's too red. How about blue? Nah,... finally, yellow seemed OK.

Once that problem was solved, detailed painting and shadowing went by pretty quickly:

Here he is with the resting stalker in the Jonny Quest flyer:

I used a 1/32 aircraft instrument decal for the instrument. I added red and blue marks on each side of the decal:

Jeff Fontaine sent me a couple of Blackdog diorama bases a while ago (Thanks, Jeff!) - I used the Cracked road with pipe base. The scale wasn't specified, but it worked well with this figure. Painting was pretty quick:

I used a mix of UV glow powders in the broken pipe:

The faceplate was painted with one of the Vallejo color shifting acrylic paints. I found a detailed review of the paints on Youtube:

I bought the Vallejo The Shifters Space Dust set on Amazon. I think it worked well - two thin layers applied with a brush to a gloss black finish and it dried quickly.

You are most welcome Frank.  Always happy to help and those bases were just not going to work out for me as they were much smaller than I had thought they were going to be.  The scientist figure looks great and the color of the suit reminds me of the original FPS game it is based on.

Thanks, guys. The ATOM paint is just great - the yellow went on with no problem, which never happens with yellow.

Jeff, the bases are small - I used this one because we've had water main brakes in our area, so I know what 100+ year old water mains look like...

A yellow that works?!? I may have to invest in some new paints.

Great looking figure, Frank. I don't know the game, but the figure, and the finish are outstanding.
