Airfix SRN-1
« on: October 22, 2024, 11:27:10 PM »
So, here I am using a tin of Humbrol Enamel 14 that I bought about 60 years ago, on a reissued model that I first built the original incarnation of about 50 years ago. The photos I've found, and the box top, show that it perhaps should be darker, but:
1) Nostalgia is lovely
2) Humbrol is a god in the modeling pantheon
3) It matches the instructions' colours nicely
4) MY EFFIN' MODEL!

MFM!  FTW!

Off to a good start with this.  So pretty much OOB and nothing whiffy?

Love it!

To be fair, it would be a challenge to turn the SR-N1 into something weirder-looking than Saunders Roe did with the original  :-\

The first one I made was crude, and the decals were crap, so I'm doing an update. But it will have a little modification, if I can slip the plasticine past the airport checks without them thinking it's explosive. Heading to Scale Model World in Telford, and I want to put this on the table: https://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Gal8/7001-7100/gal7054-Hovercraft-Bailey/00.shtm

  I built the same kit back in the '70's & still have it.  Old Humbrol was good, still using up old tins but Hornby is now getting lots of flack over Humbrol's current crap paint (too thick, too thin, wrong shade of the colour), too many parts in new Airfix kits that you can't see when built and the high prices of kits & Hornby trains.

The tin of Humbrol I used on the Mohawk chopper went on great once I stirred it enough. Even though it was old it still worked great. I think a lot of these paint makers have changed their formulas to meet environmental regs or cut costs. It sounds like a great product has gone to crap and that's a shame.
