Hi all well thanks to the generosity of michu (from another forum I am on) I have this kit to build. I will be doing it oob to try and regain some confidence. It is a massive kit (which again I thank him so very much for) my intention (assuming I don't ruin another kit) is when finished to take it apart and add more detail (given the size of this kit that should be more than possible) provided of course I don't ruin it.
So wish me luck mates.

Is it just me or do you, maybe, set your expectations too high, mate? ???
Not saying that setting your expectations high is a bad thing but, if you get as down on yourself about it as you seem to, when you're producing models of a quality that I haven't a hope of coming near, perhaps you need to rein them back in just a bit.
I'm expecting to see great things &, having seen a few your "ruined" builds, I'm still expecting to see great things! :)

Hi all well here's the start, I've put a 1/24 car (a big one in real life next to the engine just to give an idea of size)

I think my skills have gone down hill steadily, I'm hoping to revive them with this build.
-
1/24th car is the Monkee-mobile, correct?
-
Yep dug it out the spares drawer as it was the biggest 1/24 car I had.
-
Oh well I wish I'd done a bit of research before I painted the engine it's a 61 series pontiac v8 and revells call out for engine colour is yellow(which as we all know is one of the weakest pigments) so after struggling to get a solid colour, I've discovered it should be light blue, now I have to strip it and re do it light blue (not too upset as I didn't like the yellow anyway.
-
Hi all well i like this colour better than the yellow.

Hi all, enjoying this engine, sticking strictly to oob but there is so much potential for detailing up.

I've put it next to a 1/8 Citroën traction avant and a rule so you can see the size

Hi all tonight's bit, according to the instructions the engine is finished and there are no missing gaps in the spures, and the list of parts dosent list it but I'm sure there should be a fan blade ? I no nothing about these big American engines but every other car engine I've seen has one, also I've chosen the chrome exhausts, I wonder do they go blue like bike exhausts.

Unless the real one had an electric fan hooked up (unlikely, but possible as some did it), there should indeed be a fan on the front of the engine. If you go with the chrome headers, I would imagine that they would blue a bit, too, just like bike headers.
-
Yes, they do blue - quite significantly if not replaced frequently (a mate put a chrome exhaust on his HR(?) Holden which was his drive-around pride-&-joy & they were very blue/purple by the end of the 1st year).
I believe that most show cars with chrome headers & exhausts either don't have the engine run for more time than absolutely necessary or they have a standard exhaust for running & a chromed exhaust for showing.
-
... but I'm sure there should be a fan blade ?
You're right, there should be a cooling fan (standard 4-blade or clutched 7-blade). Maybe not an issue for a street rod but the Pontiacs had fan shrouds as well.

Hi all I've decided, as I used to customise bikes in my youth I would do a custom paint job on this I've started the background sky, I'm intending to do dragons and stuff on it, I've done it matt so I can draw and paint on it then in the end I will gloss it.

Hi all another update, my customising days are obviously behind me, I used to be good at this, still the advantage is I can always respray with another job, and I'm already thinking of something
Involving black and gold.

This just gets better and better.
-
That looks superb as it is.
-
The only problem I can see is the lack of off-side limbs (legs) on the side-door art. Other than that it's great! :)
-
Hi all here is the next update, I really am enjoying this (I know the paint job ain't the greatest but I've not ruined the kit, the way I've painted it, it's easily over sprayed and none of it will show) this is a great kit, I was going to build this oob but I'm sorely tempted to add lots of detail, I'm just worried if I do i may end up ruining another one, I seem to be in a catch 22 at the moment, I want to do more but I'm worried if I do i will ruin it.

Hi all, well I thought I was getting there(I always knew the paintwork was rubbish but I can and will be spraying over that) this is turning out to be another failure the instructions show the door latch pointing down (don't, point it upwards, it won't clear the gap in the inner door skin) admittedly that's not down to me, that's the instructions, however I cannot get the doors to open (whatever glue I use shutting the doors puts stress on the hinges and forces them off, also the gap around the door is horrendous( I wish I hadn't cut them out) all in all another ruined kit, the kit it's self is great, it's the idiot putting it together. When I respray it, it will be one colour, hopefully it will look better for that, still a few bits to put on it but I can't see them doing much for the overall model.

Hi all well it shows how much notice my missus takes of my modeling, since I was sat right by her on the couch whilst painting this, she said "did you paint those dragons or are they transfers " I said "yes I painted them, I know they're rubbish, I'm going to spray over them" she said " don't you dare, they're fantastic" go figure. Anyway here it is done. Wish I'd done a better job but looks like I'm stuck with it the way it looks now.

I agree with your wife - the dragons (and the rest of the car) look awesome!
-
Overall, I, too, am on your other half's side on this. Very nice build! :)
-
Yup, good call from the missus! :)
-
Still, that painting looks fantastic on your model, and for that,I sincerely congratulate you !
-
Ruined, you say? Rubbish! I retort. Beautiful work, sir, beautiful work and well done, too. Just curious - have you ever seen one of these type cars in the flesh, so to speak? The doors don't fit all that well - yours look spot-on, from the cars (of that type) that I have seen.
Seriously - that is beautiful.
-
Thanks, glad you like it.
