In 1967, the Royal Australian Navy received the first of its 18 S-2E Tracker ASW aircraft. In 1976, 13 of these aircraft were written off or damaged in a deliberately lit fire in their hangar at the Nowra Naval Air Base in Australia in an act of sabotage. Those 13 aircraft were replaced with S-2G tracker aircraft purchased from the USN stocks in the United States. In 1980, the decision was taken to replace HMAS Melbourne with a new, larger carrier. In 1983, the decision was taken to update the S-2G to turbine engines, Pratt and Whitney PT-6 engines being chosen, to give the RAN an all turbine fleet, removing the necessity to carry two types of fuel onboard the carrier.
This is the kit I'm starting with:

Interesting project!

Yep, really looking forward to this. Love your ADF whiffs Rick

Looks really interesting!!

Does the conversion kit have a fuselage extension 'plug' as the kit represents an S-2A which is shorter forward of the wing than an S-2E/G?

Yes it does but I am extending the fuselage on the kit anyway as it is substantially too short for an S-2A let alone a proper S-2G version. I'm extending it in front and behind the wing by a total of approximately 20mm! Not sure what was the prototype for this kit but it was substantially under-measured! :o

That is so-o what should have happened, brother! :icon_alabanza:

I do like that, I am a fan of converting piston to turbine aircraft, and seeing this has made me want to do another Tracker build. This one I did is a pure jet counter insurgency aircraft, but so want to do a turbo prop one.

Cheers mate!

I was just about to ask the same question.
Cheers.

Wonderful stuff. So glad to see the conversion set in action. FYI, the conversion set credited to myself here originates from Eric Sujecki's " Plane Bits" range. Eric's estate assigned me with a number of his moulds and masters to see that they continue to carry on in one form or another. He would also be happy to see this.

Chris, fine work! A real "should've been" concept executed rather nicely.
-
Gee both these are inspiring to do a Tracker kitbash.
Congratulations on the builds. :)

Top work
