Title: Phoodoo
Post by: Eddie M. on July 22, 2014, 08:21:17 AM
Good evening Gents. Due to a recent event,  I started thinking about the things that I put off until tomorrow. It's a waste of time. I'm going to need my hobby to keep me busy for a while, so why not start posting about my latest project.  A kitbash of a F-101 and F-4. It will be the Phoodoo, or Phu Doo, or....

Eddie,

Let me be the first to say that you have been missed here at BTS by your long absence and I am glad to see you back.

Now on to your project.  I have had a similar idea for a combination of Phantom and Voodoo parts and what you have going right now is about what I expected it to look like.  The Phantom wings certainly do a lot for making the Voodoo appear a bit more even on the ratio of the fuselage to wing size relationship.  Plus you get two wing pylons instead of one or none on the original Voodoo wing.  A Voodoo with the 600 gallon center fuel tank will be a nice feature.  Will there be room for the other two 450 gallon tanks from the Voodoo?

Welcome back man!  You have my full attention...please proceed!  8)

+1 to what Jeff said!  :)

Really like where this is going. The new wings look great on the Voodoo.
What have you got in mind for the tail?

Thank you Gentlemen. It will have the Phantom tail surfaces. I've already added the F-4 radome to the Voodoo's nose. This project's plans are on the fly. Once I get the basic shape of the aircraft done, I'll plan the rest of the load out, but am leaning toward full racks of bombs and a few basic missiles.

The wing and intake combo is just perfect. It looks like a seamless (not a pun) mix of both aircraft.

Either that or, if you have access to a F-101A/C conversion kit, use the four cannon that those single-seaters were equipped with and place the magazines where the F-101B has its internal missile bay.

Oh yeah, I think that will really put the icing on the cake.

trying to imagine the changes... I think its going to be crazy how "natural" this looks when its done. Like the Idea of the phantom tail, the F-4 has such a unique layout that "phantoming" things should be more common :)

A nice incentive to get back to work on my F3H-2/F-101B cross as a F3H-3 "Arch-Demon".

Thanks for the kinds words Gents. My younger and only sister died last week of a brain aneurysm at 43 yr of age, so as can be expected, my time at the bench has been curtailed at the moment. I still do at least one task everyday so that progress is always being made. More in progress pix soon.
