Ok, started a general sci-fi thread for my stuff. Same rules as my tank treads thread, wips mostly here and seperate money shot threads for finished things if they're good enough. Prepare to be dazzled by a stunning array of unfinished and half completed stuff .......
First up we have (my personal favourite) AJAX - Lord of War
Many moons ago I started a Chaos modelling project for my brother in law who just loves anything chaos related. We got a couple of Chaos Defilers when they first came out and typically I wanted to convert the stoopid looking things into something with a little more menace.
So I got out the blue tac and wondered if I could make a standing dreadnought out of the bits ......
First attempt.
I like to call this guy "Gunhead". Reminded me of ED from Robocop, not very successful, but at least he's standing on two feet.

Second try.
This guy was unaffectionately called Mr Whippy. Still a fail but the germ of a pose was forming.

Third go.
Close enough for me to start thinking about glue. Thought he looked angry so I named him AJAX as it sounded cool, sort of like the bad walker from the later Dune series.

Got the touch with Ajax and friends :)
You know how to make them look like great bunch a guys ;)
-
Ajax looks like a mean ba**ard! :o Love the muzzle brake on the Basilisk!
-
Taking another look, I noticed how that little red droid is kinda like being mugged by Huey, Dewey & Louie from Silent Running.
I can only again gape in awe.

WOH! :o
That one's some kind of awesome! 8)

That one is multiple different sorts of awesome :-*

I think I used to work for that guy, Mr Queeg.
Your paintwork is so amazing I'm beginning to wonder if you have fine art training.
Definitely MFA caliber and then some!
Brian da Basher

Thnx gents. Dunno about fine art training, wish I had some, I did draw and dabble in oil paints a long time ago .....
And Ajax gets dirty. He's covered in the "Queeg" sludgewash preshade. Next is to drybrush that smooth in various stages.

I've also been working on a Forge World Leman Russ platoon.
Pretty straightforward builds apart from the usual problems of working with resin kits, straightening warped parts and filing and grinding bits to fit.
Usual steps are shown below, part 1 is the tank workshop. Followed by base coating (in grey Humbrol enamel), then lightening and shading (all work is acrylics form then on), camo added and finally a greenish filter applied over the top.

Camo stippled on with a brush, tried to get a fade out look to it.

Greenish filter applied with very thinned out acrylic.

Neato, bro! :)
There's something about these kits I really like - in a comic book / cartoonish way - but I just can't suspend my real-world physicist from objecting too much for me to fork out the cash to buy any. :-\
-
I love that paint scheme. Very cool. The builds are also really neat, like the Boys-type weapon on the cupola of the one tank.
Cheers,
Logan

Love the Chaos Lord. One of the best figures Games Workshop ever did, I think. The very embodiment of "Chaos".
Ajax' new "pilot" is also pretty cool. Looks much more "chaotic" that way. :)
-
More Queeg magic.
Paint scheme is really nice and quirky
-
The Green filter on your tank, was it applied with a brush or airbrush? It looks so smooth :-*
-
Thnx for the interest guys. I quite like the Krieg/Imperial Guard tanks (the Forge World ones anyway) as they've got a real steampunk/WW1 feel to them.
The Green filter on your tank, was it applied with a brush or airbrush? It looks so smooth :-*
Hey mate, lol like everything the filter is brush applied. I just brush out all the brushmarls, working it until it's almost dry and there's no pooling. It was a bit of a trial to be honest. I wanted a greyish hue with lightening and fading and hoped the greenish filter would work applied last. I should have taken a lotto tiocket too cause it worked ok, now I've can camo and filter the other two.

Got another resin Forgeworld heavy tank on the bench at the moment .... the mighty Malcador. This boy's even more WW1 looking than the Leman Russ's. Its been nicked by the Chao Renegades so it'll get a grimy yellow finish to match the Predator I posted earlier.
Being resin and like the Russ's it took some work to get the parts ground down and aligned properly, mostly anyway : )

That, folks, is a landship if ever there "was" one! 8)

That's some very clean work, Mr Queeg and I think your idea for the paint scheme will be excellent!
