Title: I was so impressed with that Dieselpunk La-7
Post by: uncle les on January 11, 2014, 09:54:22 PM
That I had to build something like it..  so tonight I threw this together - paint goes on tomorrow. I have no idea what the scheme will be - it kinda looks Italian so maybe a green/white/red tail...  I dunno   :icon_nif:

Wild looking beast!

Can't wait (well, I guess I can but impatiently) for it to be finished.

..and ... finished.
I thought it looked a little Tintinish so I decided to make it Bulgarian.. if that makes sense.

airbrushed matt black overall, airbrushed camo in med grey & tan freehand and through holes cut in Milo tinfoil ( makes a great template or mask), short burst of rattle can silver from the front and then dry-brushed in various shades of brown & metal.

The donor kit being one of these (http://www.oldmodelkits.com/jpegs/Hawk%20Mystery%20Ship%20640-50.JPG) althought that tail end looks a bit Brewsterish....

I can't quickly find any specific examples but found in amongst Hergé's graphic adventures can be found some not-so alternative universe '30s to '60s aircraft concepts.

As for Rintintin..  similar adventures, but the canine roles are reversed (re Snowy) and there's less aviation !

..but then you knew all this   ;)

Okay, I actually saw the movie but had no idea it came from a French comic, I sorta get your reasoning, still love the Whiff though! 8)

Captures dieselpunk look so well  :)
Exhaust pipes with larger holding tube and foot pad are classic.
Screen that goes around fuselage in front of wing is great feature I never would have thought of.
All of it is punky cool  8)

That's one of the most outstanding diesel punk whiffs I've seen yet!

The paint and weathering are amazing and I think that 5 bladed prop is truly inspired!

Just thinking: with the tubular engine bay and the exhaust pipe configuration, you could claim that it's a huge Wankel rotary engine. Ideally, for a twin-rotor rotary, thr exhaust pipes would be staggered...
