IIRC one of the issues with these vehicles is that they are somewhat too flexible (in regards the chassis rigidity) to provide a good weapons' platform.
-
Being utterly clueless in the world of armor, I saw that and thought it was the Caterham Super 7 of warfare.

Depends on how you design / build them ...

Basically a Chenowth sand-rail:

Lack of armour, poor load carrying capacity and from my understanding a bit temperamental for use by military forces are factors against their use.
Most of what they do can be done nearly as well by a standard Landrover or Landcruiser 4x4 much more cheaply and 'cause they are standard vehicles require less support. The Chadians did very well with just Landcruisers against the Libyans in the 1980s. Shades of "Rat Patrol" for the older members.

I see that the best of the first season is available on DVD, I may have to break down and buy that one.
On a more serious note, didn't the US Army use something like this during Desert Storm? I seem to remember a three-man vehicle with a tricycle layout and a pintel-mounted weapon.

The fast attack vehicle had some potential for SF but lots of drawbacks. The concept has evolved but under operational pressure in South Africa to this:
Which once again showed how capable it can be in the recent fighting between SANDF para coy gp (+) and entire CAR rebel army
Small, light, fast(ish) and armoured where it counts (front and bottom).
-
What about adapting a Rallye racing car for Fast Attack role?
;) Lancia Stratos maybe ;)
BTW: why that tube frame? why not a closed body?
-
Don't need a closed in body. Your maroon/fawn/green beret will protect you!

If they are Scots, they just paint their bodies blue... ;D

But isn't that an off-woad vehicle?

Or better yet:

Supacat, who make the Jackal, also offer a racier "dune buggy" style vehicle called the Wildcat:

did'nt the navy seals use some sort of dune buggy with guns in the first gulf war?

No, that's when they just go naked! ;D

Amazing video of what this sort of vehicle (not in military trim or load, of course) can do:
BOBBY TANNER INSANE CLIMB - DISNEY, OK (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOFswyHcvzs#ws)
They could almost market that as vertical take-off!

The Wildcat is an old Bowler motorsport rally raid vehicle. With the development of their Nemesis model,
Bowler sold the rights to the Wildcat 200 to QT Services, who in turn licensed it to Supacat for the
military market. Not unlike how Supacat uses a Lockheed license for the Coyote and Jackal.

Just found this in a local toy shop for a couple of quid. It's made by Maisto and doesn't have a name, but it's clearly based on the sand-rail style dune-buggies. It look about right for 1/72nd or 1/76th: the bod next to it is 1/72nd, and remember, he's on a base:

Hobby Fan do a Fast Attack Vehicle (based upon the Chenowth Fast Attack Vehicle (FAV) I believe) in 1/35:

And I assume like all things Hobby Fan it is somewhat rare and costs a Kidney or your first-born to purchase?
-
Didn't Dragon make an FAV a few years back ? I think I remember seeing it in one of their catalogs ... ???
-
I believe Hobby Boss has a FAV/SEAL DPV listed in their catalog (has been for a couple of years) would love to see it actually make it to the production line. I'd get a couple.
-
I always thought that a light, low-maintenance vehicle that could be configured into self-propelled AAA or mortar would be a good addition to light-infantry-centric defensive scheme......
Too bad it's people on the other side of the Strait that are willing to attempt innovations.
-
What surprises me sometimes is the sheer number of innovations that those people build. For a supposedly rigid, centralised economy, their defence industries seem to have a very free hand...

Dragon showed it in their catalogue for 3yrs in a row then it disappeared to howls of disappointment from modellers everywhere & it's still wanted as it was a Gulf War version :icon_twisted: It was never made :(
yes, Hobby Fan is very hard to get & very expensive for what their stuff is.

Yeah! The trolls! :icon_twisted: Boooooh!
It seems they fired the troll in charge of advertising. He works for Trumpeter now! ;D Kidding aside, Trumpeter has always come through with their announcements. Might take a year or seven, though.
Hobby Boss DID announce such an FAV in 1/35 for this year. Whether it will actually come this year is another question, of course. But I'm confident. Hope always dies last.
