Title: Steampunked Soviet
Post by: TerryCampion on October 17, 2012, 03:02:06 AM
A Hobbycraft 1/48th La-7....perfect.
Got wings, fuselage and filler together. Bostin'
It'll have a slightly shorter nose than the allied stuff....ie not as good.
All for BIGGLES.....

"Steampunked Soviet" is almost a redundant term and almost real world when you look at some of what they built!  ;D

If you looked at the rivet detail of an Mi-17 or Mi-24 helicopter or a Sukhoi Su-25 "Frogfoot"; it wouldn't take a whole lot to get them to Steampunk status.

I look forward to how your La-7 comes out.

For me an Il-2M screams out to be steampunked...GIB could shovel coal when not manning the gun.

Beats Vodka. "One for me, one for the engine. One for me..."

New nose on the La-7SP-1 added.....from laminations of various-sized buttons, some covered in wrinkly foil. Lots of further work required. Although the u/c is down, I'm posing it in flight as if it's just taken off.

The La-7 had the NATO reporting name "Fin".
The La-7SP-1 has the reporting name of "Fing", as when RAF intelligence saw photos, the sergeant said "WTF is that FING!!"
 ;D ;D

Yesterday I was moving stuff as daughter and grandaughter have moved out after 6 years, so I'm able to access my modelling room again.
Still lots to do on the "Fing" but the mind is always working to find solutions to build details/problems. Looking good.

Also working on some steampunk goggles...1:1 scale, but they're essentially done now except for painting.

Hopefully later today I'll finish the construction of the "Fing".
