This project has been on and off for some time, I've only just got around to publishing the build.
Some time back Mrs Lady Mog declared " I think I've broken the toilet " and gave me the sheared off end of the flush handle.
Sure enough the handle was irreparable and I found a replacement and installed it, which left me with the broken handle sitting forlornly on my workbench, then a braincell in my head said "Spaceship !" And a found object build was born.
First I needed to bond some Polystyrene sprue to the nylon core
(https://i.imgur.com/SIhrrpe.jpeg)
Then extend everything forward
(https://i.imgur.com/TkarMTz.jpeg)
And liberally cover in filler.
Also add some base plates so that I can hang some Polystyrene bits off the underside
More when it happens

Nice - looks related to X-20 Dyna-Soar
-
Do you have any airliner decals in the stash? I see windows down the sides.
-
This is looking very cool! I love "found object" builds :-*
Perhaps Mrs Lady Mog should be actively encouraged to break more stuff around the house?
-
The dark shiny finish looks good.
-
Thanks for the comments guys
Finsrin :- yea I can see the similarity, just add wings.
Kerick :- nice idea but this is going to be approx 1/72 scale. Something Boba Fett style or a parasite fighter.
Frank3k :- the dark finish is actually chrome metal which has been cast around a nylon core. Unfortunately it's going to be lost under a coat of paint. But I have a bad feeling as to whether the paint will stick. Time will tell.
Apophenia :- don't encourage her ! ;D ;D ;D

It's off to an interesting start-I'd be tempted to leave the chrome and finish the front end in some kind of stylized shark mouth.
-
Hmmm food for thought, I don't think I'm going to save the chrome, too many scratches, but a sharks mouth, that is definitely something to mull over .........
Thx

When you finish this you'll be flushed with pride.
Okay, I'll get me coat... ;D

Reuse, Recycle... great stuff

When you finish this you'll be flushed with pride.
Okay, I'll get me coat... ;D
It will make your head swirl……

Owch !
Failing that it will drive me round the bend......
Wait for me ! ;D :D

Maybe it’s a Klingon ship… because it’s going around Uranus?
-
Nope, not going down the pun path ;)
What did remind me of in a basic form was the Razorback from the expanse, the racing ship

Might need 2 more handles though ;)

Thanks all, getting back to reality.

First PSR session and it's beginning to take shape, still needs more filler in certain areas to keep it symmetrical plus it still has a few pock marks to be filled.
Had to take an industrial type file to it to shape some of the chrome/nylon >:D
But not bad for the first session.
Thanks for looking..............

Have you tested how well the chrome takes to paint? Clorox may remove it, if you need to.
The front edge looks like it should have cockpit windows
-
I'm taking a bit of a leap of faith with the paint. If humbrol rattlecan primer doest work I have some white car primer designed to be used on metal. One if them I'm sure will work..
I may have problems at the joint between new and old.
Time will tell ..... :D

Now I have to paw through some old plumbing parts……. :o ;D
-
I once made a believable looking 1:1 sci-fi laser rifle from bits of PVC pipe for my nephew, but onto the build.
PSR is sort of complete I'm still finding the odd pit and crack to fill but I'm itching to get on with the details now,
Starting with the engines.
So two discarded tailwheel Door assemblies, some discarded bombs and a bit poly tube and rod later
(https://i.imgur.com/L2cy6GN.jpeg)
And some power feed detail using some parts which I think came from a ship and some rod
(https://i.imgur.com/CuFtI0t.jpeg)
It looks fairly convincing......

Looking good!

Really liking this, the bits and bobs you have greeblied with work to my eye
-
Lotz of creativity going on here. 8)

Hi all
Having detailed the upper surfaces the lower surfaces now come in for some greeblieing
I've kept it simple, the main fuselage is half a large scale bomb contoured into half a drop tank. The gun pods are half bombs.
Still working on the gun barrels/discharge plates
(https://i.imgur.com/OhsphDp.jpeg)
Just a little more PSR and it will be ready for priming
Still haven't decided what colour it's going to be, possibly a dull yellow or orange, black, starwars standard creme or maybe a copout silver.
It will come to me at some point.
Thanks for looking..........

All the shapes are falling (and fairing) nicely into place. Really like the engine work.
-
I think I have some of those parts in my spares box! Bonb and fuel tank halves are the most useful parts of all.
I really like how this is coming together.
-
Hi all
Finished the PSR and sent the spaceship to the paint shop which came out like this.
As usual it threw up a few faults, but when I went to correct them the primer spalled off the chrome like snow!
After some more sanding I scarified the chrome a bit more. Then back to the paint shop. But this time I used proper car metal primer, and it looks like it's holding.[crossed fingers icon]
I've decided I'm going for a dull red/orange colour scheme , I'm in the process of finding a suitable paint, I hate mixing colours if there is need for a second batch it's never the same hue.
More when it happens ......

Keep chugging away on this build. Put the paint experience in the lesson learned box. This is too cool to stop!
-
Thanks guys
Good news the car primer is holding and I've sprayed the first coat of colour on the spaceship.
It's Revell Brown 85, but it has a dull orange hue that I was looking for.
Spraying this was a bit fraught though, as the paint had gone a bit gloopy, regardless of it being an unopened tin (I believe a common revell trait) and despite mixing very thoroughly in the airbrush cup some thick bits got through and blocked it a couple of times, very frustrating, I will probably mix it in a bottle next time before putting in the airbrush.
It's a bit patchy and needs a second coat but it's looking good to my eyes.
Thanks for looking .......

Never know whats under there.. nice work.
Oh, and love the field expedient sprue holding jig

Very Chris Foss like!
I got one of these paint shakers (https://ak-interactive.com/product/paint-shaker-removedor-pintura/) for free from AK.
They've made a huge difference. I pour the paint and thinner into the airbrush cup, then run the mixer. Paint gets mixed properly.

Very Chris Foss like!
Good idea! Now you need some black stripes!

It's been a while since I worked on this one. Group builds forced it onto the back burner.
So small progress, I've painted the engines

It looks a bit sparkly at the moment but it will tone down under a coat of matt varnish.
Currently trying work out a design and planning the decals .......

... It looks a bit sparkly at the moment but it will tone down under a coat of matt varnish...
Dunno 'Mog. I kind of dig the "sparkly" effect on the engine bits ... gives them that anodised unobtanium alloy look
-
Fair point, might leave them sparkly   ;D

It's a spaceship - Sparkly is good! 8)

Like it as well.

Looking great!

A breakthrough in spaceship design

Thanks guys
Just had a delivery of off colour/out or register decals will be getting back to this one soon.

Hi all
Finally got my hands on some stripes and by request she has been left in a sparkly condition. Inspired by the conversations above she now sports the name Royal Flush.

this one was a long time coming but was worth the wait for an off the cuff build im happy with this one.
All comments and criticisms gratefully accepted, as always

Looks great! I’d say waiting for the decals was a good move. I’m sure masking would have torn up the paint.
-
Cool! 8)

In its final form with paint it is hard to believe that it all started with a broken toilet flush handle. Well done!
-
-
Well, that's come out completely . . . different to what i expected . . . I was thinking it was going to be a small scale model of a large spaceship, like a battleship, or cruiser, but that is a really cool space fighter . . .
cheers,
Robin.
-
Looks great! Long way from a broken flush handle!
-
Indeed! That is glorious, 'Mog
-
For something as neat and simple as that.. it Rocks !!
love it
-
You've got a Straight Flush there
-
Thanks for the comments guys. Much appreciated

Or royal flush?
