Title: Two Drones in a Ma.K vein
Post by: Dr. YoKai on June 17, 2024, 10:52:42 PM
Holy antiquity, Batman-both of these builds are salvaged from previous bashes that I either wasn't satisfied with, or that had been damaged enough to be considered...parts. (Sinister organ flourish) Both derive from the old Airfix HS 129. The Green and blue cammo'd drone was originally a conversion to the HS129A with the twin Argus engines-I had used an engine nacelles from the Airfix FW 189 to do the conversion, and I think it dates from the early 'eighties, if not High school in the 'seventies...the other one has to be from sometime in the late 'eighties or early 'nineties, but I really have no certain memories of it before its 'original' form, which did have the twin jet engines, and landing gear from a Nausicaa
gunship. I really just wanted to slap some parts together and get back into posting, but like a lot of 'quick bashes', I kept having ideas...

The promer shot shows the left drone in its second configuration, with new skid landing gear, and no other changes. I decided early on to make them both 1/35, and use the same kind of 'anti-gravity units' that show up in the "maschinen krieger" world of Kow Yokoyama. That led to the second drone turning into this-

And both of those became these-

If the rocket pods on the grey drone look underscale, that's because I decided they were flare launchers, and the drone's function was
targeting and ELINT. Anyway, I am back at the bench after a bit of a funk, and building. Stay tuned for Venusian hijinks and a bit of Battletech.

Well done as always! Great rebuild on the poka dot one. The outdoor pics look great too.

Music to my ears-thanks! And thanks to all for the views and comments.
Kerick-I was pretty pleased with how the 'spotted lanternfly' cammo came out. I used what's called 'Silly Putty' in the states to do the masking.

Such imagineering and good building.  Fitting for their own kind of realm.

They came out great and really look the part! Hard to tell what the original kits were. I like the bulbous antri-grav pods.

I find the Silly Putty very useful. I’m still going to try the purpose made masking putty from AK soon.

I think their "purpose made" putty involves ordering the right density therapy putty (https://www.amazon.com/s?k=therapy+putty) in bulk and packing a small amount in an AK container. I bought some therapy putty years ago and It's still good.

I have been "geeking out" on Ma.K and SF3D the last year or so and Its seemingly more tricky than it looks. I really like these and I think they fit well.  Hope we get to see more like it in the future

Thank you for the great tip on the therapy putty

The ups and downs of Ma.K over the years can be a little confusing. I've been friends with Kow Yokoyama on FB for some years now, and he is a remarkably approachable fellow-along with being a passionate amateur footballer. He's kept an aesthetic alive for forty years, and managed to make it a modest, albeit growing segment of the SF modelling community. Ma.K., like a lot of other SF has element of both stagnation and vitality to it-witness the endless iterations of the same suits and robots, while stuff like mine still meets with approval. I think the world-building in Ma.K could be a little more substantial (It's an interstellar civilization-is Earth the only thing being fought over?) But that's the wonderful thing about SF modelling and modelling generally; there are worlds and worlds and worlds.
Glad you liked the tip about the "therapy putty" (I'd never heard it called that until Frnak mentioned it) but it does seem apt, and delighted to hear from you-I haven't seen you posting a lot recently, and hope you're doing well.

That is so great that you are friends with him! I sometimes wonder if even he is surprised by the following his ideas have created. I know I would be a little shocked if a what-if I idea I posted went "viral" like that LOL. I have been watching Lincoln Wright, checking out Brian Kruger's forum and "briefings", and buying some (expensive!) Ma.K books and am still in "brainstorming mode" There also used to be a lego contest that was Ma.K themed that can be found on flickr and has set off a lot of ideas. plus there are things like your creations that just add to the idea banks. Not enough time, and too many model ideas. There's a reason I am investing in sketchbooks LOL

... watching Lincoln Wright, checking out Brian Kruger's forum and "briefings" ...

Just some links for those names ...

Lincoln Wright = https://www.paintonplastic.com/ (https://www.paintonplastic.com/)

Some great stuff there - including Luna Gans ... so, technically, extending beyond Earth  ;)

However, as a former 'dackel' companion, not so sure about the long-legged Großer Hund "Dachshund" variant  ???

Brian Kruger = https://www.maschinenkrueger.com/joomla4/ (https://www.maschinenkrueger.com/joomla4/)

BK moved into RW (and conceptual) armour builds but still some SF3D/Maschinen Krieger content.

I'm not sure if the forum is in disarray or you just need to be logged in. But some useful links are:

Been watching MaK since the early 1980s when it was SF3D.  Miss the old RoboterKampf site that had quite a few great twists on Kow's designs - saved hundreds of pics from it.

Must get back to my six (part-built) kits ... replaced the gatling-gun in the Krote with a laser device - so much more modern  :D

Yup. Me too.

Another site that I miss is Jason Eaton's Maschinen Krieger Models (www.makmodeler.com (http://www.makmodeler.com))   :(

Looking forward to seeing your Laser-Kröte
