Interesting. I wonder what would happen if they hung some weapons and fuel tanks on it.

Good and valide point, which I to thought of when I first saw the picture. Perhaps it could be done with minimum fuel load🤔
I heread somewhere that the A-7 Corsair was assigned the task of emergency point interceptor, in the case that a carriers catapult system failed....

I wonder if there's a 1/72 conversion for those different air filters on the engines, I know you can get the skis

Here is another photo with the sand filters attached.
And one with both filters and skiis.
And no filters and skiis.

Or it could a whole new filter design.   ???

So it would they were removed as snow ingestion is not an issue.   ;D

I got curious so did some searching. Blackdog does the skis in resin, and surprisingly you can buy a 1/72 diecast CH-147F by Forces of Valor which has those barrel filters and exhaust style. Nothing in the styrene world though ---

Interestingly, it looks like FoV has misplaced the front u/c, looks to much to the rear ---

Retired RCAF FE.

Mike KaehlerCanadian Military Aircraft

So if you want to hang around in the same area just watching something below you that is called "Loitering" in the LRP (Long Range Patrol) community.

The CP-140 Aurora crew will "Loiter Shutdown" engine number #1 (no generator or EDC [engine driven compressor for pressurization]) to save fuel and extend the on-station time.  The #4 engine can also be shutdown to extend the on-station time even more.  If the two engines are shutdown then there is a minimum altitude (1000') that must be maintained so if either #2 or #3 engines fail there is enough altitude to allow enough time to air-start either #1 or #4 during the single-engine drift-down.

Once you loiter shutdown the engine you look at the position the propeller has stopped in.  If the propeller stops with the blades parallel to the wing that is called a "Bad X" because the blades cause a buffet with the wing.  To avoid this the flight engineer will briefly unfeather then feather the propeller again to allow it to spin momentarily and see where it stops.  Sometimes you have to do this 2 or 3 times to get a "Good X".  The propeller in this photo is a "Good X".  Loitering one engine is very common but loitering two is not as common.

I have loitered two engines a few times while with 407 Sqn.  (My photo)

Another story from same RCAF FE. Right gear oleos don't fail me now!

You don't realize how interesting your life is until you look back at what you have done.  What was routine then now seems extraordinary.  Last posting I described a CP-140 Aurora event from my time with 407 Sqn in Comox.  Here is an interesting CC-130 Hercules event from my time with 435 Sqn in Winnipeg.

Almost 20 years ago I did a trash hauling (cargo transport) trip to Europe.  Our routing was Winnipeg-Trenton-Bagotville-Greenwood-Lyneham-Sigonella-Zagreb-Lyneham-Prestwick-St. John's-Trenton-Winnipeg over the course of 8 days.

On the way home we landed in St. John's (Newfoundland) just before a big snow storm hit.  As we taxied in we debated about putting the Hercules into the small almost full hangar.  The AC (Aircraft Commander) was hesitant because it cost $1000 per night.  When compared with de-icing in the morning, which cost $26,000 then putting the aircraft into the hangar was a good idea.  Getting the aircraft in the hangar was a challenge and I was hoping the right oleos would not drop with that small aircraft under the right wing air refuelling pod.

The next morning it was snowing when we arrived at the airport and there were 6 USAF Hercs on the flight line and one of them was running.  The gauntlet had now been dropped.  The AC went to flight plan and asked for the aircraft to be towed out of the hangar.  I told him I would tow it out when I see the USAF Herc take-off.  The USAF Herc de-iced ($26,000) and taxied for the runway.  I could hear it but I could not see it through the snow.  It returned to the ramp and de-iced again ($52,000) and taxied out for the runway again.  Fifteen minutes later it returned to the ramp and shutdown.

We left our Herc in the hangar for another night and left the next morning having only paid $2000. (My photos)
