hi all decided my next long term build will be to use up all my steam engine broken models, here is an idea of what I'm thinking

so ive done some work on the base


now I need so help on composition, which way round(loads more weathering needed this is just for composition.

Over the last 2 days I've been taking photo's of old heavy machinery, including a couple of diesel train engines.

I'm on night shift from tonight but I'll try to get some of them onto PhotoBucket & posted here for you a.s.a.p.

Hi all here is tonights progress.

I decided that this scrapyard should have everything including a kitchen sink, but I don't have a 1/16th sink,so I devised a cunning plan to make one.
first I measured my sink then a made a 1/16th former.

then I cut a piece of ply 2mm bigger than the former (I will be using 2mm plasticard as my hot air gun has bit the dust I will be using a blow torch so need a fairly robust piece of plastic)for pushing the plastic over the former.

oops I did not heat the plastic up enough so only got it half way down before the plastic cooled down, then getting it off I snapped it so I had to make another one.

unfortunatlely I snapped this one getting it off as it was so tight, but this is what I got


and with a bit of cutting and drilling this is what i got

then when painted and added to the scrap yard here is the effect

Hi here is tonights instalment I have not done anything with the wood on the train as I have no idea how to weather plastic wood I may remove it altogether if I cant work out how to age it.

This is a great project: I love this sort of stuff. :)

Painted wood generally ages like this: first the paint flakes off, leaving a matt, bleached, unvarnished wood effect underneath it. then rot sets in, making the wood go green and brown shades, usually starting at a cut end and creeping along. The wood eventually breaks up and crumbles away. It may also get white or orange spores on it during the rotting phase.

I'd say what you need to do it strip the paint off those parts, mess up the ends and the joints where they'd rot, paint them in a wood colour, then partially put the red and green back on using something like the hairspray/salt technique to make it look flakey. They you can do the rot with washes of greens and browns.

You could also have the windows fogged over with dust and have green mould creeping up them.

Thanks for all the help I am wondering if it would be easier to make the cab out of wood then age that, I thought this was going to quickly, I started this post saying "my next long term project" and it's only been just over a week and I'm nearly done, so maybe I should give this part a bit of time.
