What about a Fairey Prince powered Battle?

The engine illustrated here is Fairey's P.24 Monarch. The earlier P.12 Prince was considered for a twin-engined Battle derivative. But a single-engined P.12-powered Battle - even the proposed P.16 development - wouldn't really offer an advantage over the RW Merlin variant.

Now, the 2,000+ hp P.24 Monarch on the other hand ...

Yes! I typed the wrong name. My bad!

A few years back I grafted a Wellesley engine onto the Airfix Battle.

What about a Fairey Battle testbed with a turboprop?

Given the extensive list of engines that the Battle Test Beds were used for,  every chance

With those big wings it would have sprung into the air like a homesick eagle.

Assuming one would be looking at a early model RR Griffon of ~1700-1800hp vs the 1030hp of the Merlin in the Battle but also accounting for the increased weight of the bigger engine (roughly 150kg heavier) it would be interesting.

Actually a pre-Battle concept powered by Fairey P.12 Prince engines, the Air Ministry
didn't want a twin so Lobelle redrew it with a single P.12. The Ministry refused to use the P.12
because in their minds Fairey wasn't an established engine manufacturer. Code for them
still being pissed off about Fairey using the Curtiss D-12 in their Fox light bomber private
venture which had trounced the majority of RAF bombers and fighters in service at the time.
Lobelle replaced the P.12 with the Merlin I and thus the Battle was born.
