Actually not implausible, ISTR that the first RF-84F flew with that canopy.  It makes for a very different look.  As for "pick and choose" mods, how about a RF-84J derivative with a radar and gun nose?  Something aof a precursor to the F-105A.

Indeed it did, note also that the intakes are smaller than the production series aircraft.

That's good to see, I've never come across a photo of the Thunderprop with the RAT deployed before.

Thunderflash: remove the recce parts and replace with an Agave radar.  Inner pylon carries an Exocet.

Here's some fantastic "What If" profiles by Tomás Reyes on DeviantART. There's many different examples of each type on his page, all "What If".

How about re-cycling old airframes, as well as building new ones.
This is the A-84N rebuilt from an F-84F, with new equipment, a more efficient engine, wingtip Sidewinders and the possibility of a full range of modern weaponry.
Nice in wraparound USAF schemes...SE Asia and European One, as well as desert schemes.
Used by the USAF, NATO countries, allies all over...LOTS of possibilities.
On the list to build very soon.

I think reworking the back end of the aircraft is really a must for the swept wing versions. From what I've read, the engines were installed in such a way that the exhaust duct had a kink in it and something around 10% of the thrust was lost.

Rework the back end so it can have a straight exhaust pipe, maybe stick an Avon engine with reheat in there and see what happens.

Put ogival wingtips and a pointed vertical fin like the Gen 1 Harrier on TanModel's new RF-84F Thunderflash and presto:  The Hawker Gawker.   ;D:-\ :-\ :-X :-\ :-\ )
