LAV- Internal Security Variant
« on: May 17, 2012, 05:12:14 AM »
Hello folks,

I am posting some photos and a drawing of a build, I am doing at the moment. It is an inter security variant of the LAV. I am using the old Italeri LAV-25 Mortar carrier as the base and I planning to use a CVR(W) Vixen turret to replace the large hatch in the middle of the vehicle.

The sketch I drew as a idea.

The basic hull.

Filling and trimming.

APU and fuel tanks, I think the fuel tanks look a bit rough.

The backstory I am planning for it, is the Arab Deterrent Force stayed in Lebanon for longer that it did and that the South Lebanese Army captured some of their kit, and used it patrolling their own rear areas. This Vehicle will be an ex- Saudi army painted in the later SLA two-tone camo.

First up, welcome aboard.

Interesting build.  I built something similar for the ADF using a LAV-TUA & an UGWS turret.  My inspiration came from the Canadian AVGP Grizzly, but more importantly, where in the hey did you get a 35th scale Vixen??

I look forward to seeing this as the build goes along. :icon_music:

Promising !! we need more tread-heads here :)

I guess the turret is from Accurate Armour (Saxon?)

Thanks. I ordered Accurate Armour's Vixen kit and I might copy the turret somehow.

Looking good so far!  :)

An idea regarding the hatches. The way your sketch has the vision blocks, some of them will be looking at the turret's backside. Maybe rearrange them so they'll have a better field of view.
Cheers,

Hi folks, I got a distracted for a few weeks. All I did was add the drive train, cut the opening for the turret and paint it with primer (not in that order, mind you). I actually got the Vixen kit and will be copying the turret.

And here is some of the distractions( Although I was just finishing them.)

I didn't realise that I didn't finish the build-log. I finished the vehicle with the Peak turret on it, and it sat on the shelf for a good while.  I took a dislike to the turret on the LAV, so I decided to rebuild the top.

Then I tested the size of the opening

I used an old Warhammer base as a cupola base

I will post a photo of the turret I made, if I can find it.

I like the idea of the external fuel tanks. I may have to use that one day.
