Lockheed Orion AEW 1
« on: March 14, 2021, 03:58:48 AM »
One of the proposals for Airborne Early Warning offered up to the RAF came from Lockheed. A combination of Hawkeye radars and P3 airframe would have made possible a quick entry into service. I used a Hasegawa P-3/CP-140 kit, and a Fujimi Hawkeye radome. Serials and markings by Xtradecal sheets. ZA423 came from a blackout batch for Harriers.
Unfortunately, due to a flying book accident, I no longer have this build. :(

Great looking aircraft!
Didn’t DEA or some other agency have something like this?

Hi Kerick,
You’re right. The DEA does have a similar Orion, on which I based this Whiff. I plan on re - doing this aircraft, as I really liked the look of it.

It looks great with the radome - for sure, remake it.

Now though I have three other ideas in my mind:

  • RCAF CP-140 version of above
  • RAAF version of above
  • RAF version but with Marconi radar from Nimrod AEW3 fitted instead.

Very nice!

I have a 1/144 Vickers Vanguard and an Hawkeye in the same scale for something similar.

Great job Tony!

I have the same idea but with a Dash-8.
Work in progress ::

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

I can relate to catastrophic crashes-some of my favorite builds fell victim to birds attempting to perch on them because a habit of leaving the workshop door open...This came out very nice, and my fondness for Hemp is well known... ;)
