I started this one a few years ago. It got abandoned right after a base coat and some masking applied. i decided recently to clear up a few of the oldies on the shelf. Amazingly, the masking hadn't damaged the base coat. Probably because I used a spray can of Krylon Brilliant Silver. That stuff sure is tough. It didn't peel off at all. I finished it with Model Master Metalizers. The decals are from the Academy F-51 Korean War Mustang.
The original story was an idea to convert the P-51 to jet power as an interim measure during the later part of WWII. I figured with the low power jet engines available, two would be better. I constructed the engines from some old drop tanks. I removed the intakes from the nose and reshaped it and added 4x .50 cal machine guns, since wing guns were removed to fit the jets. I moved the main gear wells aft to make it a tricycle gear and added a wheel well in the nose. Obviously, the belly radiator was removed as well. I added some 5 inch rockets and tip tanks for a combat ground attack mission.
