I'm pretty sure I can pinpoint the neighborhood here in Fort Worth where that happened.

Climb aboard Blue Angel 4 in the "slot" position. Situated at the back corner of the Angels' signature diamond formation, you'll see the F/A-18 Hornets flying inches from each other as they execute breathtaking maneuvers. (http://usat.ly/1Yb309N)

Your browser needs to support HTML5 for the 360 feature to work. Note my Windows browser, Chrome v46, does not support or I have disabled HTML5  support.

However on my iPhone and iPad, it is displayed in the 360 format.

The only real replacement for a DC-3 is another DC-3.

This DC-3 (BT-67), a turboprop DC-3 nicknamed Lidia, crashed in 2012.  All the passengers escaped without injury.  However, the aircraft didn’t fare as well.  For almost a year, the damaged craft sat idle under very harsh conditions until a team of engineers made an attempt to rebuilt the aircraft.  They faced extremely cold temperatures, blowing snowstorms and high winds.  It’s a great story that shows the power of dedication, hard work, and hope to rescue a classic aircraft.

Cool. I did not know about this Ice-capade.  ;D

I checked out the Basler website. Cool time lapse video on a complete BT-67 conversion here.

The site FAQ  says:

Q. Will Basler Turbo Conversions, LLC run out of DC-3 airframes?
A. Not really. We believe that there are more than 500 good candidate airframes in existence.

Q. How does Basler Turbo Conversions, LLC determine if an airframe is candidate for conversion?
A. We look for corrosion and damage to determine if it is economically feasible to repair the corroded or damaged areas.

Q. What about fatigue?
A. The DC-3 air-frame is infinitely repairable as related to fatigue damage.

Q. How long does it take to convert a DC-3 to a Basler Turbo Conversions BT-67?
A. The conversion is actually a re-manufacturing process. The whole process takes roughly 6 months and requires 35,000 to 45,000 man hours to complete, depending on configuration.

Q.  Can you still get parts for a DC-3?
A. Yes, due to the number of militaries that operated the DC-3, there is a vast supply of parts still available. Basler has a large stock of DC-3 parts and has produced the parts where world stocks are depleted.

The following footage was filmed from a U.S. Air Force KC-135 from the 340th Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron as it refuels an AC-130W over Iraq during a night operation in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

The best part is when the gunship disappears into the night.

There are very few details about the gunship operations in Iraq. Among the things that we know is that two AC-130s along with some A-10 Warthogs were involved in a quite famous airstrike during which 116 ISIS-controlled fuel trucks were destroyed near Abu Kamal, Syria, on Nov. 15, 2015 as part of the coalition’s Operation Tidal Wave II.

These three very polite men came to my door today:

And asked me if 'd like to go for drive in this (I can turn on the sirens):

And spend some time with their therapy dog "Princess":

Sounds suspicious to me.

I still say the V-22 Osprey is the most "sci-fi" looking aircraft in service today. Watching one of those come in always feels like a scene from Aliens.

What sort of weapon hard points are they looking at fitting. Am I right in thinking that they have tested a gun system?

Weapon hard points would be as tested on the ATTR in a "moustache" position and limited to a rocket pod, gun pod, or Hellfire double-rack (four-rack hangs down too far).  A gun system has been trialed and found wanting; too, you need to make certain you don't hit yourself (like the tilted nacelles when in helicopter mode).  If it was strictly for gravity drop weapons, you might fit racks behind the rotor plane, but only gravity drop weapons (bombs, torpedoes, etc.).

We are looking at ways of improving performance and reliability/maintainability, too.

Life was good when I could watch in my pajamas Jonny Quest on Saturday mornings.

<a href="" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win"></a>

In 2011, Roger D. Evans recreated the animated title sequence in stop motion and animation.

However I would to point out two major ICAO/FAA violations: there is a dog in the cockpit and no one is wearing seat harness straps.
