Title: AH-64 Cochiti 1/48 compound chopper
Post by: Artoor_K on December 07, 2020, 04:44:07 PM
Hello,

So...time to begin. I bought an old Italeri AH-64. I'll try do build combat helicopter simmilar to AH-56 Cheyenne out of Apache. It'll be based on this picture:

Stub wings from Su-25. Stabilizers from wings of Tornado, props'n'rotors from spare box.
I love Cheyenne so let's built another incarnation of this beast :)

Neat build concept and you have basics thought out.  Look forward to seeing.

Thanks :) Well, not all is thouht out. I'm still pondering over shape of engines. Apache has angular engines - I have to make'em sleeker, more aerodynamic. I have few ideas but I don't know if they're doable. It's easy to forget what lies in dark hole of spare box :) Maybe I'll use 1/32 RBS-15 missiles to make engines - they have cool intake :) Maybe I'll bought Italeri 1/48 Cobra to cut out engines? Everything is considered :)

Is it going to be a cargo helicopter? "C" = Cargo in the US DoD designation system.

I thought of "C" for "combat", I've forgot that "C" is for cargo here. My mistake.

Today I had to order 1/72 Zvezda Su-25 to use it as a parts donor. 1/48 engines of Su-25 are simply too big. I hope I'll be able to use them without major surgery.

Let the fun begin!

And here is how my 1/48 Apache looks now. Engines and wings are from Zvezda Su-25. Tail prop is from 1/72 Orion.

Horizontals. I'll use grey or olive green, I don't know.

Vertical from 1/72 Su-25 with 1/48 Spitfire tail wheel.

Nose turret with cannon

Landing gear legs from 1/48 SU-25. These two grey parts (from 1/48 C-47) I'll glue on engines to make'em more massive.

As you wish :)

So...gear legs, tailplane and wings are glued. Turret and front systems are ready too.

This really looks like a believable upgrade/evolution of the AH-56 Cheyenne.

Thanks guys :)

I need to make rotor blades shorter to make them simmilar to Cheyenne ones.
There was some struggle with cockpit glass fit but after some sanding Cochiti is ready for primer.

Yep, that is seriously nice   Are the C-47 intakes still going on to the engine pods?

Thanks a lot :)

Are the C-47 intakes still going on to the engine pods?

No, I couldn't make'em fit smoothly and with them angines looked...well...without any sense. If I would mount these intakes...what would be reason to use them in real engines? I know, we're in whiff world but...this is based on something.

Echoing what others have said.  This is so well done.  The Guards Armored Divisions near the Fulda Gap better have their insurance paid up.
