Folks,
According to our calendar we were supposed to commence the "Book/Movie" Group Build today. To be honest, I had forgotten about this one. :-[ Anyway…
I have two questions for you:
- Do you still want to do this GB? Answer above - you have 7 days to decide.
- If yes, please also feel free to volunteer as Moderator - PM to myself is fine.
Note that the theme was basically any model/profile/story that was inspired by a book/movie/game whatever. It therefore is extremely broad.
Note that if we decide to do this one it will commence after the current "The Great War GB" finishes.
-
BTW folks, I would also imagine that this GB could include genres such as computer games, anime, comics...
-
Hmmmmmmm. I think I shall join in with a Tamiya Churchill with Girls und Panzer markings. 8)
-
I REALLY want to do this GB (I voted yes in the poll), but—if there's a conflict—I'd prefer if we could push it back to sometime next year. We have some really neat stuff planned for this GB, but definitely need more time to include it.
Cheers,
Logan

Assuming this goes ahead the timings would be roughly 10 Nov - 31 Dec (with possible extension to 31 Jan 2015).
-
That might be a tough schedule considering the holidays, just say'n.
-
I think that this is a good idea for a group build and you should go ahead with it, however I'm not voting because whatever the outcome, I won't be taking part. The next thing I need to do is stop modelling and do some 1:1 scale work on the house so that I can have a proper modelling room instead of a table in the corner and an unsatisfactory attic space (I actually needed to do this 6 months ago... ::)).

Yeah, I don't know if we'd be able to finish anything for that timeframe or not. Actually, almost certainly not.
I would probably need to change my vote.
Thanks,
Logan

How about we just run it through 31 Jan from the get go? Gives everyone plenty of time even with the Holidays. Thoughts?
-
I am am happy to extend the timeframes to suit what people think. In fact, post me some suggestions.
-
Aside from pulling stuff off the shelf, I have quite a few Movie/book/Game builds in there already, this is a very nice neat GB. Keen to participate.
-
I like the Jan. 31 deadline.

I like the Jan. 31 deadline.
Me too....
-
Dunno, February 30th is sounding like a good end date to me. ::)

I like the Jan. 31 deadline.
Ditto.
-
Maybe I can build one of the 60 mm HV upgunned Crusader tanks from a book called The Shield.
-
i got some movie/comic builds lined up in the near future 8)
including an Area88 F-14A Tomcat, and Managuan AF F-104G & F/A-18A (from a Buck Danny comic).
there's also another batch of aircraft from TinTin comic books.
so i got plenty of ideas to choose from ;)

Anyone looking for inspiration could do worse than check out Tony Williams' The Foresight War, which is basically a whiff WWII where both sides have an advisor from the future.

Some his ideas would be easier to put into plastic than others. Two of the sticking points for me are a round-fuselage Hampden, a "Lancaster" which is more like a giant, four-engined Mosquito, and 1940s tanks with front-mounted engines. I kinda fancy the MCV-80 Warrior for the latter role, given it's somewhat old-fashioned lines and details. It looks a bit like a 1930s Vickers Medium that's been given a makeover.

If anyone wants to play with some kit bashed tilt rotors, give these a look.

Oh, and..... there's a funny scene in the book where, on the morning of D-Day (in 1943), a German coastwatcher hears aero-engines, but can't see where the sound is coming from. He's still looking at the skies with binoculars when a Merlin-powered Royal Marines hovercraft runs him over...... ;D

I had a look at the local library online ordering page but there is none of this book.
Does it have any illustrations or do you need to use imagination to see these machines?

I am seeing quite a bit of support for this GB but am yet to hear from anyone willing to be GB Moderator.

It diesn't have illustrations, but there's a fair bit of description in the text and a glossary at the end with more info.

We'll, it looks like we have a go. I am still in need of a GB moderator though. Any volunteers or shall I nominate someone? :icon_punal:
-
Would if I was back on mainland Aus, Greg, but I'm up on CI & interwebnet service is slow & dodgy up here at best (I avoid threads with too many HD pic's), & coming into the Wet Season, as we are now, it gets positively volatile.
Sorry! :icon_crap:
-
i would volunteer, but unfortunatly i have other more urgent priorities at the moment ???

Erm, folks 'moderating' a GB is as easy or as complex as you wish it to be.
If you want separate categories for any and every permutation of medium, do so,
if you want to keep it simple and have all media in one bucket, you can do that as
well. The setup is up to the moderator.
Realistically there aint' much innit and the time requirement is minimal, you
don't have to be watching all-day, every-day.
:icon_fsm:
I nominate Weaver. ;)
-
If Weaver doesn't want to do it I'll do it. Unless y'all have any objections... ;)
-
I'm not opposed to doing it. Couple of questions:
1. I'm not a "moderator" in the helping-to-run-the-site sense of the word. Would I need to be?
2. Who came up with the idea for the Book/Film GB? It would be nice to know what their concept was before trying to implement it.
Note that I am definately NOT taking part: lot of practical stuff to do now so that more and better model making can happen in the future.
-
Thanks guys - I can help you if you need. As for the originator, I believe that there were multiple originators - I combined these into one coherent theme.
As for needing to be a "moderator", that is taken care of when we set up the GB itself.
-
i heared you need a moderator............
Did somebody say MODERATOR? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Biov528ctbw#)
ive been thinking and i think i want to volenteer, if you need one 8)
-
Okay, so now we have three vic..errr....candidates, who's actually doing it?
-
I am happy to have multiple moderators - you guys can sort out amongst yourselves though should anyone not wish to play.
-
Well, I guess multi-mods'll work ... I was hoping for a winner-takes-all-deathmatch. :icon_punal:

But I got lazy...

Now, our operation is small, but there's a lot of potential for "aggressive" expansion. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P10bC0Bxp20#ws)

Can we move this thread to the appropriate sub-forum as the "inspirations" thread please?

Cheers Greg!
