As there are still over two weeks to go and I've got a week off work I thought I'd have time to fit something in.
I'll be building a Heinkel He112 as it might have appeared in the Battle of Britain had it been chosen as the Luftwaffe's fighter over the Bf 109.
Preliminary shots,

I'll be using the decals from the Airfix 109. I'll also be fitting a drop tank and a 3 bladed prop which may need a bit of fettling.

That's a really killer concept. Tim! This one's gonna be a lot of fun!

Yeah, great concept! Imagine trying not to confuse the Spitfires and He-112s in a dogfight!
-
Cool project!
Confusion, as apophenia says, is almost a given in a dogfight. Gives me an idea...
Wonder if I can find a He122?
-
Me likely....

Maybe if the He-112s were painted in a Great War Luftstreitkräfte purple & green camo?

It would get pretty confusing. The Heinkel will have large areas of yellow paint applied to aid identification. :)

Can't wait to see more! ;)

Good solution although I'm pretty keen on Brian's Luftstreitkräfte suggestion as well :D

I made a start yesterday. After painting the interior I closed up the fuselage and added the wings.

Should be nice quick build. It needs a smear of filler on the top of he nose but that's all.
-
Nice! :D
-
Man that's a wickedly fun kit! I'm envious! I like where you're headed with the color scheme.
If you need some braunviolett, let me know.

I'll be OK thanks, I'm going for RLM02 AND 71 for the upper surfaces.
After a coat of primer I've been getting on with the camouflage today.

The yellow will need another coat or two but after that and the RLM71 splinter it'll be ready for Klear and decals.

Over A RAF base in 1940:
Flight leader of some Hurricanes: Attention Fox Flight there is a flight of Spitfires heading towards us...
Fox 2: BREAK!!
Fox Leader: What ?! Fox Two, you have no right to ...
Fox Leader bursts into flames...
In the Heinkel 112, the pilot grins...
Stupid Englishman...

Apart from some touching up and detail work the painting is finished.

I did lose the radio mast to the carpet monster but made a replacement from a sewing needle.

Nice work on the paintjob! Looks very sharp!
Brian da Basher

Certainly looks the part :D
-
Looking nice.
I was just thinking about how one of these done up as a captured one in RAF markings and scheme could really fool people. ;D

It probably would cause a few double takes, shame I haven't got another one. ;D
More progress today. A few coats of Klear and the decals are on.

I should finish it tomorrow once I finish the undercarriage and give it a coat of matt varnish.

The decals on, and BoB's your Heinkel! Well done , Tim!
-
That looks great, Tim! I love the way you think!
Cheers,
Logan

Looking great ... and not all Spitfire-ish :)

Nice job! 8)

I finished the Heinkel off this morning so here is the finished article.
After it's success in the competition to find the Luftwaffe's new fighter the He 112 served with distinction in the Spanish Civil War and the Blitzkrieg. When it came up against the RAF's fighters, although it was able to hold its own it was often mistaken for a Spitfire due to the similar wing shape. This lead to the application of large areas of yellow paint for quick identification. This example served with 9/JG26, France, August 1940.

Sharp as a tack! You pulled off that complicated Luftwaffe scheme masterfully!
Brian da Basher

Really is pretty nice looking. :)

Didn't know there was He112 until now.
Good job quality build. I would like to do that well. :)
