Jet Airstream, AKA Bambistream Mk 2.
« on: April 20, 2021, 04:41:07 AM »
Powered by two PW 617F jet engines, this recreational camping aircraft was a regular sight over the American South West, either on training missions for the upcoming attack on Daiquiri or taking families out for a weekend at the lake. Atrocious fuel efficiency required the use of drop tanks, with a stated range of 250 miles being possible. Aerodynamically it lacked what it made up for in headroom. By the late 1990s most had been retired, with three making regular appearances at the Burning Man Festival as an airshow team, the Flying Screen Savers

A roughly 1/24 scale diecast Bambi trailer scale-o-ramaed with an Italeri 1/72 B-57 Canberra and a Monogram 1/48F-84. Cockpit section was scratch built, drop tanks from an Airfix 1/24 Mustang added. Chrome finish via a gloss black undercoat and a layer of "Mission Models" polyurethane chrome airbrushed on.

This is great! Did you make the pilot's seat/lounger from scratch? How was the Mission Models chrome to work with?

Do the wings fold for those marginal weather days that you have to tow it?

Awesome, really just awesome!

The base component of the seat is a PE "Bomber Seat" from a company whose name escapes me.
The Mission Models chrome airbrushed well direct from the bottle. It's a polyurethane and stood up to some handling before it began to wear off, but if you don't handle it much it doesn't mark up much.
