P38 UCAV
« on: November 19, 2012, 11:51:35 PM »

Who chops up a perfectly good P-38? I did. I thought it might be fun to do a fast, single engine UCAV from WW2

I have since blended the wings and need to take updated pictures.

This is so cool.  :-* :-*

You can make it a Mistel with a B-17 or a B-29.

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

Keep the in-line engine theme and "Mistel" it from a B-38.

Interesting.  I was thinking a while back about a P-38 UAV - I was going to keep the centre pod for recon equipment, SATCOM  etc though.

Very cool design and execution. I could see hanging a pair from a B-29 as early cruise missiles.  The P-38 has a lot of possibilities for UCAV versions, doesn't it?

Nice!
However, it has already been built ("Brooks P-38 drone" on my site http://www.kristofmeunier.fr/#Sit )

Cool concept and build  8)
Could be a long(ish) range cruise bomb sent to North Korea targets.  Used in combination with shorter range Loon cruise missiles.
Thinking night bombardment.

My thinking is the bay could house a camera pod, jamming equipment ahead of a bomber flight, or with external stores rocket pods or a couple 500 pounders for special missions.

Could be carried in by a bomber to extend range or catapult launched almost anywhere.

Lends itself well to a catapult launch site diorama.
