Grumman F7F-7 SuperCat
« on: July 22, 2012, 02:48:08 AM »
There is a sixth dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.

It is an area which we call the What-If Zone.

Na na na na na na na na..

So here I am mulling over my next project, a 1/72 Monogram F7F kit lying ignored on the corner of my bench, when I feel a chill in my modeling haven, I see my breath in the air and then whomp,  I am falling down a long black tunnel and I look up seeing my work space getting smaller and smaller until it shrinks to a small white dot and finally disappears into blackness.

Then I am suddenly awake holding in my F7F now with a bubble canopy. My Dremel tool is still warm and there are blue plastic shards all over my lap and floor.  I am shaken, but not stirred.

The front portion is from a F6F and the rear a F-86. What do you think?

My apologies for the tardy update. Work once again has been interfering with my modeling life. Did I tell you how much I hate RFPs?

Here is the F7F as it stands today. The spine has been cut down and the hole covered with two sheets of .020 styrene. I cut out the 2nd layer to hold the canopy in the closed position. I wanted to add some shape back. Being flat looked very strange.

The cockpit is from the Academy F-51D. I'll add a guide rail to help slide the canopy back.

A day without tip tanks is like a day without sunshine. The tanks are Misawa tanks from an Airfix P-80C.

Sorry for the long delay between progress reports. Work is getting in the way of fun again.

Here are a few shots. Canopy is just tacked on for the photos. Painting should be done this week.

I got a nice sheet of Xtradecal SEAC Thunderbolts hence the silver and blue markings again. So it will now be a Tigercat Mk. III.  :o

Thanks. And so it has has. Last night I painted the anti-glare panel in OD green which included the turtle deck.
