I am poor at convincing back stories... so I am not even going to try.. outside of there really is no reason why the Indian Air Force would not or could not have bought the Buccaneer either in Maritime Strike or the low level strike role. Shame on BAE.

In the late 60's, when the USAF needed to replace the Thunderbird's F-100, the AF Chief of Staff knew that the Navy was going to the Phantom for the Blue Angels.  He basically told his staff that the AF was not going to copy the Navy, and besides,  the Phantom was a Navy design and the Thunderbirds were going to use a real Air Force airplane.  So after trials with several airplanes,  the Thunderbirds went with the F-106.
